Today, on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Semarang State University (FMIPA UNNES) successfully held the UNNES Mathematics and Science International Conference with the theme “The Role of Science and Mathematics for Sustainable Development Goals.” The event took place both offline at the D12 Building, 3rd floor of FMIPA UNNES, and online through Zoom meetings and live streaming on YouTube.

Organized in two sessions, namely the plenary session and parallel sessions, UMSIC 2023 featured three keynote speakers from both domestic and international backgrounds during the plenary session. The keynote speakers for UMSIC 2023 were Prof. Dr. Mary D. Balela from the University of The Philippines, Philippines, Prof. Dr. Masturi from Universitas Negeri Semarang, Indonesia, and Prof. Dr. Hadi Susanto from Khalifa University, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The conference was opened by the Dean of FMIPA UNNES, Prof. Dr. Edy Cahyono, M.Si., followed by the plenary session, which began with a presentation by Prof. Dr. Mary D. Balela on Wastewater Treatment. In the same session, Prof. Dr. Masturi continued with a presentation on Composite Materials, and Prof. Dr. Hadi Susanto delivered a presentation on Applied Mathematics. The plenary session concluded with a question-and-answer session between the speakers and conference participants, both those present in person and those attending online.

UMSIC 2023 proceeded with parallel sessions featuring paper presentations both online and offline. Selected papers will be published in AIP Conference Proceedings (indexed by Scopus) by AIP Publishing (currently under review by the publisher) or published in one of the following journals: JPII (Sinta 1), Kreano (Sinta 2), JPFI (Sinta 2), Biosaintifika (Sinta 2).

The Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at UNNES hopes that UMSIQ can serve as a platform for exchanging ideas and sharing knowledge between speakers and conference participants, whether they are attendees or presenters. UMSIQ aims to be the birthplace of high-quality papers, providing a space for researchers to publish their work for the benefit of the broader community and to inspire its readers.
