Marathon Site Visits as Part of the Field Assessment for Program Accreditation

The accreditation process is part of external quality assurance conducted to maintain the quality of services and outcomes of a process—in this case, the academic process, which includes student admission and registration, lectures, exams, academic advising, measuring the satisfaction of the university community and stakeholders, and student graduation. The entire process is reviewed by assessors and evaluated through assessment. Based on the evaluation results, it is determined whether a study program still meets the criteria to retain its current accreditation status or is eligible for a higher ranking. It is hoped that accreditation will improve the quality of the study program, particularly in academic services, so that it can produce high-quality graduates with the expected competencies.

In March and April, UNNES, through its Quality Assurance Office, had a hectic schedule in support of the accreditation process. Nine study programs conducted visits or on-site accreditation assessments, as follows:

1. The Bachelor’s Program in Civic Education, administered by the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, currently holds an “A” accreditation status and is working toward achieving an “Excellent” accreditation rating. The on-site assessment will be conducted on April 22–23, 2025.
2. The Bachelor’s Program in Geography Education, administered by the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, currently holds an “A” accreditation status and is striving to achieve an “Excellent” accreditation rating. The on-site assessment will be conducted on April 29–30, 2025.
3. The Master’s Program in Mathematics Education, administered by the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, currently holds a B accreditation status and is striving to achieve a “Very Good” or “Excellent” accreditation rating.
4. The Master’s Program in Science Education, administered by the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, currently holds an A accreditation status and is striving to achieve an “Excellent” accreditation rating. The on-site assessment will take place on April 16–17, 2025.
5. The Bachelor’s Program in Physical Education, Health, and Recreation, administered by the Faculty of Sports Sciences, currently holds an “A” accreditation status and is aiming to achieve an “Excellent” accreditation rating. The on-site assessment will take place on April 21–22, 2025.
6. The Master’s Program in Management, administered by the Faculty of Economics and Business, currently holds a “Good” accreditation status and is striving to achieve a “Very Good” or “Excellent” accreditation rating. This is the program’s first regular accreditation process.
7. The Doctoral Program in Economics Education, administered by the Faculty of Economics and Business, currently holds a “Very Good” accreditation status and is striving to achieve an “Excellent” accreditation rating. This is the program’s first regular accreditation process.
8. The Bachelor’s Program in Nutrition, administered by the Faculty of Medicine, currently holds a “B” accreditation status and is working toward achieving a “Very Good” or “Excellent” accreditation rating. The on-site assessment will be conducted on March 3–5, 2025.
9. The Bachelor of Medicine and Professional Medical Education programs, administered by the Faculty of Medicine, currently hold a “Good” accreditation status and are working toward achieving a “Very Good” or “Excellent” accreditation rating. This is their first regular accreditation process.

These nine study programs have varying accreditation statuses. Study programs that already hold “Excellent” accreditation are expected to maintain the quality of their services, while those with “A” accreditation are expected to improve in order to achieve “Excellent” accreditation. Likewise, study programs that still hold “B” accreditation are expected to strive to achieve “Very Good” or “Excellent” status. This requires strong support and cooperation among all stakeholders, both at the central management level and at the program study management level. The Quality Assurance Office continuously monitors and provides guidance to both programs that have already achieved “Excellent” status and those that have not. Especially for new programs currently in the process of applying for minimum accreditation and/or their first regular accreditation, the Quality Assurance Office oversees the process until accreditation results are obtained.
