Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming one of the most improved universities in the THE Sustainable Impact Rankings 2026. The conservation-oriented university moved up significantly from the 1,501+ rank in 2025 to the 301–400 global position in 2026.
The results were announced at the Global Sustainability Development Congress (GSDC) held at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) in Tangerang on Wednesday, June 24, 2026. This achievement highlights UNNES’s active role in supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the global level.
The THE Impact Rankings evaluate universities based on their contributions to sustainable development. The assessment reflects not only academic performance but also institutional impact in addressing global challenges through innovative and collaborative initiatives.
UNNES was recognized as the most improved university in Indonesia due to systematic improvements in its sustainability programs and enhanced data management.
Head of the International Affairs Office and SDGs Center at UNNES, Alfath Yanuarto, expressed gratitude for the achievement. “We are grateful that UNNES’s efforts in supporting sustainable development have received international recognition. This achievement will serve as a foundation for strengthening our vision as a conservation-oriented university,” he stated.
The Rector of UNNES, Prof. Dr. S. Martono, M.Si., also appreciated the achievement. “This ranking improvement reflects global recognition of UNNES’s commitment to sustainable development and motivates us to continue delivering meaningful contributions to society,” he said.
In addition to its overall ranking improvement, UNNES achieved strong performance in several SDG indicators, including SDG 5 (Gender Equality) ranked 32 globally, SDG 4 (Quality Education) ranked 34, and SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) ranked 52 and 61 respectively.
UNNES also demonstrated progress in other SDGs, including SDG 14, SDG 15, and SDG 16, as well as contributions to SDG 6 and SDG 7 within the 101–200 global rank group.
Through this achievement, UNNES strengthens its position as a university that integrates education, research, and community service with sustainable development principles.
This achievement supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
