Related to SDGs

The Faculty of Engineering (FT) at Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) sent 45 students from the Mechanical Engineering Study Program to participate in a Joint Research program at Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), Malaysia, in July 2026. The initiative forms part of the university’s effort to strengthen internationalization and enhance student competencies in green technology.

The international collaboration focuses on two strategic areas: renewable energy and natural fiber-based composite materials. Through this program, students gain the opportunity to engage directly in international research activities related to sustainable technological development.

Rusiyanto, S.Pd., M.T., Vice Dean for Business, Research, and Cooperation at FT UNNES, expressed his appreciation for the selected participants. “We hope students will not only gain knowledge and international research experience but also produce collaborative scientific outputs that support green technology development and strengthen UNNES’s contribution to sustainable development,” he said.

During their stay at UMPSA, students will have access to modern laboratory facilities, collaborate with local researchers, and participate in case studies on the utilization of natural fibers as environmentally friendly composite materials and on renewable energy development. These experiences are expected to broaden their academic perspectives and strengthen their research capabilities at the global level.

The Joint Research program also reflects FT UNNES’s commitment to expanding international academic networks and promoting research-based innovation. Beyond benefiting students, the initiative strengthens cooperation between Indonesian and Malaysian higher education institutions in education, research, and technology.

Through this program, UNNES Mechanical Engineering students are expected to become highly adaptive professionals capable of responding to future technological developments while contributing to the advancement of green industries and sustainable solutions for society.

This activity supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).
