Guest Lecture as the Cooperation Result between Faculty of Law UNNES and Cornel Law School USA

Clinic of Law and Human Rights Advocacy, Faculty of Law UNNES in collaboration with Clinic of Farm Worker Rights, Cornel Law School, New York-USA conducted Guest Lecture activities with the discussion on “Human Rights of Migrant Workers in the Fisheries Sector in Taiwan”, Monday (8/27) at Dean Building of the Faculty of Law UNNES Sekaran Gunungpati.
Guest Lecture with the speaker Wallace Jhong Huang LLM was opened by the Vice Dean for Academic of the Faculty of Law (FH) Dr Martitah MHum and guided by Riska Alkadri SH LLM as the moderator discussing the human rights of migrant workers in Taiwan which was followed enthusiastically by 150 students and lecturers of Faculty of Law.
Wallace Jhong Huang also told about the sadness of migrant workers in Taiwan. Starting from the absence of legal protection, work insurance, low wages, and the lack of knowledge of law enforcement in Taiwan regarding the rights of workers who should be protected.
In addition, Wallace also told of the vulnerability of these immigrant workers to be objects in the crime of human trafficking.
“Taiwanese people may employ Indonesians but Indonesian people are brought to other countries such as Korea, Japan, China. No one knows. Who will protect them? ”
Before ending his lecture, Wallace did not forget to motivate students to keep following the development in international issues, deepen legal knowledge through scientific research, and share information that he gave to his family or relatives who are or who will be working in Taiwan and to the community in general.
In addition to Guest Lecture activities, the Legal and Advocacy Clinic in collaboration with the Employment Clinic are also scheduled to conduct research with Wallace Jhong Huang to visit the families of Indonesian citizens working in Taiwan in Tegal and Pemalang.
