CILACAP – In an effort to realize the target of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Goal 4, namely ensuring inclusive, equitable education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education successfully held the 60th National Commemoration of International Literacy Day (HAI) in 2026.

The peak event, held at Soedirman Plaza (Former Cilacap Battalion Field), Cilacap Regency, Central Java, lasted for three days, from Wednesday to Friday, September 23–25, 2026. Carrying the theme “Literacy for Others, the Universe, and Prosperity,” this year’s celebration emphasized the importance of literacy as a key pillar in eliminating educational inequality in Indonesia.

The Director of Non-Formal and Informal Education (PNFI), Gusti Made Ardana, along with the Directorate General’s staff, including Director General Tatang, emphasized that non-formal education plays a vital role in reaching community groups that have not yet been reached by formal education. This aligns with the mandate of SDGs 4, which demands that no citizen be left behind in obtaining basic education and literacy.

This commitment to inclusive education was strongly reflected in a series of Literacy Talkshow sessions featuring renowned speakers. In the session held on Friday (September 25th), Prof. E. Aminudin Aziz, MA, Ph.D., presented a topic titled “Peer Literacy: Bonding Inclusive Diversity Through the Power of Literacy.”

Furthermore, to equip the community with skills relevant to current developments (SDGs Target 4.4), Dr. Decky Avrilianda, M.Pd., an academic from Semarang State University, also provided in-depth insights. He presented the crucial topic of “Digital Literacy and Humanity in Non-Formal Education.”

Not only limited to discussions, real efforts to expand access to continuing education were also realized through various comprehensive activities during the event, including:
- The involvement of early childhood education activists through HIMPAUDI activities to strengthen the foundations of early learning.
- Holding a Discussion on Out-of-School Children (ATS) with related agencies and PKBM (Community Learning Activity Centers) to find solutions to return out-of-school children back to education.
- Activation and appreciation of the Community Reading Garden Forum (TBM) which is the spearhead of literacy at the grassroots level.
- Visits to dozens of exhibition stands of LKP (Course and Training Institutes) and HIPKI which showcase real works from vocational and non-formal education.
Through this 60th anniversary of the Indonesian International Day of Resilience (HAI), the government hopes to continue enhancing the synergy between environmental, digital, and humanitarian literacy. This initiative is believed to accelerate the transformation of Indonesia into a literate, globally competitive, and prosperous society, in line with the grand vision of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030.
