Internship students from the Semarang State University (UNNES) Non-Formal Education (PNF) Program actively participated as assistant instructors in the selection process for the Regional Budget (APBD) training program organized by the Semarang City Vocational Training Center (BLK). The selection program at the Gayamsari BLK included training in barista, digital marketing, makeup (makeup), and bread and cake making. The selection program at the Mijen BLK included training in graphic design, makeup (makeup), and bread and cake making. The selection process consisted of a written test and interview for prospective participants residing in Semarang as a preliminary step before participating in the intensive training, which took place from June 17 to July 31, 2026.
The activities were conducted at the Semarang City BLK facilities in Gayamsari and Mijen. The interns’ roles included: assistance with selection administration, facilitating interview sessions, providing pre-test technical assistance, and documenting results for follow-up training. Mentoring student interns not only streamlines the selection process but also provides students with the opportunity to gain field experience facilitating vocational training and understand the competency needs of participants.
The written test focuses on measuring basic competencies and technical readiness relevant to the training field, while the interview assesses motivation, communication skills, and the participant’s suitability for the program’s objectives, ensuring that selected participants are optimally prepared for the training.
This activity contributes to the achievement of several SDGs, including SDG 4 (Quality Education) by increasing access to vocational education (upskilling); SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by strengthening employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for participants; and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by empowering local communities through workforce competency improvement.
