Pekalongan — Seven interns from the 2026 PRIGEL Non-Formal Education (PNF) Program at Semarang State University participated in the Disaster-Safe Education Unit (SPAB) mentoring program at SMP Negeri 4 Pekalongan on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. This activity was carried out in collaboration with the Central Java Province BBPMP team as an effort to strengthen school preparedness in facing disaster risks while raising awareness of climate change issues in the educational environment.
The SPAB mentoring program actively involved the school through a series of educational and collaborative activities. The activity began with an explanation of the aims and objectives of the SPAB program to the school community to strengthen their understanding of the importance of a culture of disaster awareness in the educational environment.

In addition, the mentoring team also presented the SPAB guidebook, a gathering point board, and plants to the school as a symbol of support for creating a safe, comfortable, and environmentally friendly school environment. The handover was part of the implementation of disaster mitigation-based education integrated with environmental awareness.
The activity continued with a joint planting activity involving the 2026 PRIGEL PNF UNNES interns, the Central Java Province BBPMP team, teachers, and students of SMPN 4 Pekalongan. An enthusiastic and collaborative atmosphere was evident throughout the planting process, reflecting a collaborative spirit in preserving the school environment.

The mentoring session, focusing not only on environmental action but also on analyzing the Education Report Card (D18) indicator related to climate change. This discussion aimed to assess the extent to which education on climate change and disaster preparedness had been implemented in the school environment.
For the 2026 PRIGEL PNF UNNES students, participating in this activity was a valuable experience, as they learned firsthand about the implementation of disaster- and environmental-based education programs. Students also gained experience in building communication, teamwork, and mentoring educational programs in the field.

This SPAB mentoring activity also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 4, Quality Education, by strengthening disaster mitigation education in schools. Furthermore, the climate change awareness and awareness activities align with SDG point 13, Climate Action, and SDG point 17, Partnerships for the Goals, through collaboration between schools, universities, and the government to create a safe and sustainable educational environment.
