SEMARANG – Concern for natural disaster potential has motivated a group of students from the Faculty of Law at Semarang State University (UNNES) to step in and help the community. Through the Penal Study Club (PSC), a dozen young legal enthusiasts collaborated to design the program “SEKONTAN: School for Conservation and Disaster Resilience with Internet of Things and Legal Drafting Integration” to make Keji Village more resilient to landslide threats.
This idea of protecting the village using technology and law successfully brought the PSC team to advance to the National Selection Stage of the Student Organization Capacity Strengthening Program (PPK Ormawa), representing FH UNNES.
This innovative program was initiated under the guidance of Dr. Anis Widyawati, S.H., M.H., and chaired by Ahmad Kamalludin Sihombing. The driving team consists of 14 other students, namely Arif Fauzi Rachman, Panjaitan, Intan Triokta, Nazwa Haifa Nurkamila, Tiashakira Mufida Candraratri, Satrio Pamungkas Purnabrawa, Haya Husna Amali Rafa, Nabila Virli Arion, Verin Kalina, Bagus Jaziar Ridhwan, Dimas Indriyanto, Nawa Udima Aizama, Ridho Fairuz Zain, Shealsy Ainunna Mei Pratiwi, and Qoniatus Sariah.
Full support also flowed warmly from within the organization. The Chair of PSC FH UNNES, Afif, expressed his pride in the dedication of the team led by Kamal. “Honestly, it feels great when there are people with high enthusiasm to make an impact on the community. I see that Kamal and his teammates have a very strong intention to do so. It’s also nice to see them encouraging and helping each other. Hopefully, they can always bring good wherever they go, wishing them continued success,” he said encouragingly. This progressive step, combining sophisticated sensors (Internet of Things) with legal knowledge (Legal Drafting), breaks the stigma that law students are only good at debating provisions in the classroom. Their achievement at the national level is expected to serve as a motivation for the birth of other social innovations from the conservation campus.
