Six study programs from the Faculty of Languages and Arts (FBS) at Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) conducted a promotional and new student admissions socialization event at SMAN 1 Gebog, Kudus Regency, in mid-February 2026. The activity, attended by 400 students, aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of university admission pathways and portfolio preparation for prospective students in the arts fields.
The FBS UNNES promotional team consisted of experienced lecturers from four study programs. Representing Dance Education were Dr. Eny Kusumastuti, M.Pd., and Sestri Indah Pebrianti, S.Pd., M.A. Music Education was represented by Mohammad Usman Wafa, S.Pd., M.Pd., and Nafik Salafiyah, S.Pd., M.Sn. The event, held at the SMAN 1 Gebog auditorium, was officially opened by the school principal, Sukandar, S.Pd., M.Pd. In his remarks, he welcomed UNNES’s initiative to provide direct guidance to his students.
“We greatly appreciate the visit from the FBS UNNES team. The presence of academics at our school provides valuable insights for students, especially those interested in pursuing higher education in the arts and literature. This socialization comes at a perfect time as twelfth-grade students are preparing for college entrance selections,” said Sukandar.
The activity continued with a technical presentation on the National New Student Admission Selection (SNPMB) delivered by FBS UNNES Public Relations staff member, Rifqi Awaludin. He explained in detail the pathways of SNBP (National Selection Based on Achievement), SNBT (National Selection Based on Tests), and UNNES’s independent admission, including schedules and requirements students need to prepare.
The core session of the event featured the promotion of each study program, along with technical explanations of portfolio creation. The Dance Education team guided the compilation of dance portfolios, including video recordings of performances and documentation of work. Music Education outlined criteria for a music portfolio, including vocal or instrumental abilities to be showcased. Meanwhile, Fine Arts Education offered tips on compiling art portfolios featuring drawings, paintings, or designs.
The Javanese Literature Study Program received particular enthusiasm with its presentation on study prospects and career opportunities in Javanese cultural fields, including becoming researchers, cultural experts, or Javanese language educators.
The Acting Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Arts UNNES, Prof. Dr. Nur Qudus, M.T., IPM, stated in a separate statement that this integrated promotional activity represents FBS UNNES’s strategy to reach qualified prospective students more broadly.
“We deliberately deployed a cross-study program team so that students gain a complete picture of the diverse educational options at FBS UNNES, particularly in the arts and literature fields. Most importantly, we want to ensure students thoroughly understand portfolio requirements, as this is a key factor in arts program selection. Direct guidance like this is expected to increase their chances of being accepted into their dream study programs,” said Prof. Nur Qudus.
He added that this activity contributes significantly to achieving university Key Performance Indicators (IKU), particularly IKU 2 regarding graduate readiness for employment, and IKU 5 concerning outcomes of collaboration with secondary education institutions. In the context of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this activity supports SDG 4: Quality Education through expanding equitable access to higher education information, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through strategic collaboration between UNNES and SMAN 1 Gebog.
Furthermore, Prof. Nur Qudus highlighted the activity’s relevance to global rankings. “Within the framework of the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, lecturer involvement in educational outreach and promotion activities like this strengthens the Teaching and Industry pillars. Collaboration with partner schools also serves as an important indicator in expanding UNNES’s institutional impact at the national level, which ultimately contributes to enhancing the university’s reputation on the global stage,” he explained.
Through this activity, it is expected that more students from SMAN 1 Gebog and surrounding areas will be interested in pursuing higher education at FBS UNNES, particularly in arts and literature study programs that offer uniqueness and high competitiveness. Students are also expected to be better prepared to develop portfolios in accordance with established standards, thereby increasing their chances of successfully passing the selection process.
