Ika Rizki Refima Putri and Vania Nasywa Ulayya, two sixth-semester students from the Indonesian Education and Literature Study Program at the Faculty of Languages and Arts, Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), secured first place in the debate competition at the Nursing Festival (NURFEST) 2025, hosted by the Nursing Student Association of Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang (Unimus).
Carrying the theme “Excel in Competition, United in Harmony, Enhancing Excellence and Innovation in Nursing,” NURFEST 2025 featured a prestigious debate competition using the British Parliamentary format. This event aimed to hone the analytical abilities, logical argumentation, and public speaking skills of students from various universities across Central Java Province.
The competition ran from April 14th to May 4th, 2025, culminating in the closing ceremony at the Unimus NRC Building. Driven by high spirits and meticulous preparation, Ika and Vania emerged victorious, surpassing the Unimus team (second place) and the UIN Walisongo team (third place).
Across three rounds of debate involving four teams and distinct motions for each, the UNNES team maintained a consistent first-place ranking in scores, culminating in their championship title. Vania expressed, ‘Our hope is that this achievement will motivate all our peers to pursue excellence in debate and elevate the reputation of UNNES.’
Prof. Dr. Tommi Yuniawan, M.Hum., Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Arts (FBS) at UNNES, conveyed his admiration for the students’ success. He urged students to fully utilize the university as a platform to develop their skills and abilities, encompassing both academic and non-academic pursuits.
