The Faculty of Languages and Arts (FBS) of Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) collaborated with the Association for the Teaching of English as a Foreign Language in Indonesia (TEFLIN) Jawa Tengah to hold the TEFLIN Deep Learning Training and Workshop for English Teachers of Central Java. This initiative was part of TEFLIN’s national program to support the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education’s policy of promoting innovative teaching approaches in schools.
Held on Sunday, 27 July and 3 August 2025, at the Ruang Bundar, Deanery Building of FBS UNNES, the event brought together English teachers from more than 100 educational institutions across various districts and cities in Central Java.
The program aimed to enhance the professionalism and pedagogical competence of English teachers by introducing and practicing the Deep Learning approach, a method designed to foster higher-order thinking, creativity, and reflective learning in the classroom. This approach was applied to the four core language skills, listening, reading, speaking, and writing.
During the sessions, participants engaged in hands-on activities, collaborative workshops, and guided practice on lesson planning and implementation. They also shared experiences and challenges in applying the approach, allowing for peer learning and professional networking.
Prof. Dr. Issy Yuliasri, M.Pd., lecturer in the English Education Master’s Program at FBS UNNES and Chairperson of TEFLIN Jawa Tengah, emphasized that this event was not only a training platform but also a collaborative forum for educators to exchange ideas and best practices in implementing Deep Learning in English teaching.
Through this collaboration, FBS UNNES and TEFLIN Jawa Tengah reaffirmed their commitment to advancing quality education in Central Java in line with national education goals and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 on Quality Education.
