UNNES Partners with PT Bendi Nasha Niaga Industri to Ensure Responsible Hazardous Waste Disposal
As part of its commitment to environmental sustainability, Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) implements a formal system for managing hazardous and toxic waste, known in Indonesia as Bahan Berbahaya dan Beracun (B3). The university combines institutional regulations with cooperation from an external waste management service provider to ensure that hazardous waste generated on campus is handled responsibly.
The university’s hazardous waste management system is supported by the Rector’s Circular Letter No. B/28522/UN37/PA.00.00/2024 concerning the Management, Storage, and Disposal of Hazardous and Toxic Waste.
This policy requires units that generate hazardous waste to identify, classify, and store it properly before it is collected for further management.

To support the implementation of this policy, UNNES cooperates with PT Bendi Nasha Niaga Industri, a company providing transportation and waste management services, including services for hazardous and toxic waste. According to UNNES’s waste management information, the cooperation is documented in Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) No. B/2453/UN/37.5.2.2/TU/2021. The partnership provides a formal arrangement for transporting hazardous waste generated by the university to a waste management facility in Banten.
The collection and transportation process is conducted every four months. The hazardous waste generated at UNNES includes electronic waste and waste from its Health Service Center, as well as waste from other units that produce hazardous materials. The total volume of hazardous waste generated by the university is approximately two tons per year.
PT Bendi Nasha Niaga Industri provides services related to hazardous waste transportation and management. According to the company’s official website, its services include waste collection, transportation, delivery to waste processors or recovery facilities, monitoring, and waste management documentation. These services support the controlled movement of hazardous waste from its source to the next stage of treatment or disposal.
Through this partnership, UNNES demonstrates that its hazardous waste management policy is supported by an operational process involving an external service provider. The combination of institutional regulations, designated waste storage, and scheduled collection helps the university manage hazardous waste beyond its campus facilities.
This initiative reflects UNNES’s commitment to responsible waste disposal and environmental protection. By establishing a formal cooperation arrangement with a waste management service provider, the university integrates policy implementation with practical measures to reduce the risks associated with hazardous waste and support its broader sustainability commitments.
