Children’s Recreational Literacy Activities in the Neighborhood of RT 02 RW 04, Mangunsari Village, Gunungpati District, Semarang City with the Guyub Rukun Youth Organization

The implementation of the empowerment of Karang Taruna Guyub Rukun RT 02 RW 04 Mangunsari Village, Gunungpati District, Semarang City in the form of recreational literacy has been carried out through fun, creative activities for children in the RT 02 RW 04 Mangunsari, Gunungpati neighborhood. Content literacy activities with Mathematics and Science literacy that have been carried out are in the form of Tangram-7 Puzzle games, Hanoi Tower, Frog Metamorphosis Puzzle, Catch the Goose Game, and Face Puzzle games (various children’s characters). These activities are carried out both individually (individually) and in groups and or pairs. Activities are carried out with competition or competition techniques so as to motivate children to be the best. With various games, each child has been given the opportunity to be the best 1, 2, and or 3. This implementation has made the POS Kamling facility of RT 02 RW 04 Mangunsari Village, Gunungpati District, Semarang City multifunctional. The Community Reading Post (POS Kamling) has been officially designated as the “ARCA” Community Reading Park (TBM) Post (Let’s Read Diligently). However, this TBM’s activities extend beyond reading; physical activities, games, and creative activities for children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly have become a program of the Guyub Rukun Youth Organization (Karang Taruna Guyub Rukun), along with other groups and organizations in RT 02 RW 04, Mangunsari Village, Gunungpati District.

The empowerment of the Guyub Rukun Youth Organization (Karang Taruna Guyub Rukun) in RT 02 RW 04, Mangunsari, Gunungpati Semarang, was carried out by a community service team chaired by Prof. Dr. Wiyanto, M.Si., with members Prof. Dr. Isti Hidayah, M.Pd., Dr. Sunyoto Eko Nugroho, M.Si., Dr. Budi Naini Mindyarto, M.Pd., and Prof. Dr. Hartono, M.Pd. and three students from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) Semarang State University (UNNES). Empowerment of the Guyub Rukun Youth Organization as a target partner has been carried out through a series of empowerment material socialization activities, empowerment implementation training, mentoring when the Youth Organization implements it for children in the neighborhood of RT 02 RW 04 Mangunsari, Gunungpati, Semarang City, evaluation, and follow-up. Strengthening recreational literacy in children in the neighborhood of RT 02 RW 04 Mangunsari Gunungpati sub-district, Semarang City also supports the achievement of the SDGs sustainability program target in providing inclusive, equitable, and quality education access for everyone. The children involved in literacy activities in this community service activity vary in age from 2 to 10 years. It appears that they are doing activities together without recognizing age differences. It is very interactive, and at the same time fun for them. Testimonials from the children who stated that they were happy and enjoyed playing face puzzles, the tower of Hanoi and catching ducks. The children hope that similar activities will be held again in the following weeks. As a follow-up to this activity, the Guyup Rukun Youth Organization (Karang Taruna Guyup Rukun) has scheduled a similar activity as one of its programs. This activity was also well-received by the Head of RT 02 RW 04 Mangunsari, Gunungpati, as well as the PKK Cadre, Dawis, and the general public, as well as children in the local area. Thanks are expressed to the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) UNNES, with funding from the DPA FMIPA FMIPA, all activities have been carried out well.
