West Lombok – July 10, 2025 The atmosphere at the Nurul Haramain Islamic Boarding School in Narmada, West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, on Thursday (July 10th) felt different. More than 40 teachers, religious teachers (ustadz), and female teachers (ustadzah) gathered for an inspiring seminar themed “Improving the Quality of Learning with a Deep Learning Approach,” featuring the keynote speaker, Dr. Ellianawati, M.Sc., a lecturer from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Semarang State University (UNNES).
This activity was part of Dr. Ellianawati’s community service program and a mission to introduce the Physics Education Study Program and the Master of Science Education Program from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, UNNES, to educators within the Islamic boarding school community. In her presentation, Dr. Ellianawati emphasized the importance of a deep learning approach in the learning process, which not only emphasizes conceptual understanding but also encourages students to think critically, reflectively, and contextually.

The seminar took place in a warm, communicative, and enthusiastic atmosphere. Participants actively engaged in dialogue, asking questions, and discussing the challenges and strategies for implementing meaningful learning in the classroom, particularly in the context of Islamic boarding school-based education.
Dr. Ellianawati’s presence at the Nurul Haramain Islamic Boarding School was at the direct invitation of the boarding school’s head, TGH. Khairi Habibullah, S.Ag., who was one of the delegates from West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) in the 2007 Community Leader Program in the United States. The program was also attended by representatives from UNNES, including Dr. Ellianawati, Prof. Dr. Ratna Dewi Kusumaningtyas, S.T., M.T., and Ms. Dra. Rahayu Budhiati Veronica, M.Si.

As part of strengthening cooperation between higher education institutions and Islamic boarding schools, the event also saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Implementation of Arrangement (IA) between the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of UNNES, represented by Dr. Edy Cahyono, M.Si., and the Nurul Haramain Foundation, led by TGKH. Hasanain Juanini, Lc., MH.
The seminar closed with an interactive question and answer session and a group photo as a sign of harmonious cooperation between the academic world and religious-based educational institutions.
