The community service team of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of Semarang State University (UNNES) held a socialization and practice activity for processing household organic waste in RW 5, Pakintelan Village on Sunday, June 1, 2025. This activity was attended by more than 30 local PKK members and aimed to provide understanding and skills in managing organic waste into valuable products such as ecoenzymes and compost.
The UNNES FMIPA Community Service Team consisting of Trida Ridho Fariz, S.Si., M.Sc., Dr. Aditya Marianti, M.Sc., Dr. Bambang Eko Susilo, S.Pd., M.Pd., Dr. Siti Wahyuni, M.Sc., Dr. Nuni Widiarti, S.Pd., M.Sc., Dr. Sri Sukaesih, S.Pd., M.Pd., M. Faris Al Hakim, S.Pd., M.Cs., and Virgania Sari, S.Pd., M.Si., provided material on the benefits and techniques of making ecoenzyme and compost from household waste. Ecoenzyme is a liquid fermented from organic waste such as fruit and vegetable peels that can be used as a natural cleaner, liquid fertilizer, or organic pesticide. Meanwhile, compost is useful for fertilizing plants and reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers.

After the theory session, participants immediately practiced making ecoenzyme using simple ingredients such as brown sugar, water, and fruit waste. They were also taught how to sort organic waste to be processed into compost. This activity received a positive response from the participants.
This community service activity supports several targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 12 on Responsible Consumption and Production, SDG 11 on Sustainable Cities and Settlements, and SDG 13 on Addressing Climate Change. In addition, this activity also contributes to SDG 3 (Health and Well-Being), SDG 15 (Terrestrial Ecosystems), and indirectly supports SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 17 (Partnerships to Achieve the Goals). The FMIPA UNNES team hopes that this activity will not only stop at socialization, but can become a sustainable movement carried out by residents of Pakintelan Village, Semarang City.
