The Ministry of Education and Higher Education of Qatar held Qatar Math Day as part of the Arab Mathematics Olympiad attended by Arab countries. This activity was held in Doha, Qatar on November 10-14, 2024 including seminars, STEM exhibitions attended by students, and workshops for teachers from Arab countries. Participants consisted of high school mathematics teachers, university lecturers, and high school students who will participate in the Arab Mathematics Olympiad.
One of the keynote speakers at the seminar was Dr. rer nat Adi Nur Cahyono MPd from the Mathematics Education Study Program, FMIPA, Semarang State University, Indonesia. Adi presented material on “Learning Math All Around Us in the Digital Age — from Real-World Trails to Immersive Adventures” which is the result of collaborative work between domestic and foreign researchers and practitioners who are members of the Center for Research on Math Trails with Digital Technology (mathtrailslab.id), a cross-disciplinary, cross-institutional, cross-country study center that studies Math Trails based on STEM Education by utilizing Digital Technology, such as: Mobile App, AR/VR, AI, Robotics/Drone, and 3D Printing. In addition to being a Keynote Speaker, Adi also provided a workshop on Math Trails with Digital Technology to teachers participating in the activity. In the workshop session, participants were introduced to MathCityMap, continued to design outdoor math trails and upload them to the MathCityMap Portal, then simulated their use in learning using the MathCityMap App. In addition to designing trails in the workshop in the Ministry Building area in Doha City, Adi and his team also designed STEM Trails in the Desert outside Doha with the theme Desert Sand Dunes Trails which can be used for educational activities in the STEM field while exploring the desert with an Off-road Car.
