Lecturers from the Biology Cluster, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Semarang State University have visited the Faculty of Science, Universiti Malaya, Malaysia. in the context of scientific collaboration between FMIPA Unnes and FS UM. The agreed scientific collaboration includes research collaboration, colloquium, joint publication, and herbal medicine industry. The research and joint publication collaboration between FMIPA Unnes and FS UM began in 2022 attended by the Dean of FMIPA Unnes, Prof. Dr. Sugianto, M.Si and the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Universiti Malaya Prof. Dr. Zulqarnain Mohamed for the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA). The initial research collaboration was chaired by Prof. Dr. Noor Aini Habubah, M.Si entitled: The Immunomodulatory Effect Of Foods, Herbs, And Spices For Covid-19 Prevention: Exploratory Case Studies From Indonesia And Malaysia. The next visit in 2023, continued the Research Collaboration with the Head of Research Prof. Dr. Noor Aini Habubah, M.Si. The visit in 2024 was attended by the leaders of the two Faculties, namely Prof. Dr. Sutikno M.Si as Deputy Dean III of FMIPA Unnes and Prof. Dr. Siti Nursheena binti Mohd Zain as Deputy Dean III of FS UM. In addition, it was also attended by Biology lecturers including: Prof. Dr. Ari Yuniastuti, M.Kes, Prof. Dr. drh. R. Susanti, MP, Prof. Dr. Noor Aini Habibah, M.Si, Dr. Aditya Marianti, MSi. Prof. Dr. Siti Harnina Bintari, MS and Dr. Y Ulung Anggraito, M.Si. Lecturers of the Department of the Institute of Biology Science, FS, UM include: Prof. Dr. Khanom binti Simarani, Dr. Zazali bin Alias, Dr. Syarifah Aisyah Faznim Sayed Abdul Rahman, and Dr. Sujatha Ramasamy. Lecturers of Science and Technology Studies, FS, UM include: Prof. Dr. Che Wan Jasimah, Dr. Maisarah binti Hasbullah, Dr. Suzana Ariff Binti Azizan, and Dr. Mohd Zufri Mamat.
The activity began with a speech by Prof. Dr. Siti Nursheena binti Mohd Zain. According to her, the cooperation that has been pioneered so far between FMIPA UNNES-FS UM can be a strong foundation for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the future. Prof. Dr. Sutikno, M.Si welcomed the plan to continue the cooperation between FMIPA UNNES and FS UM until the signing of the MoU between UNNES-UM. He said that the collaboration between the two is a great opportunity for research development and learning processes.
The colloquium related to the research results conducted by lecturers of Biology, FMIPA UNNES was presented by Prof. Dr. Siti Harnina Bintari, MS entitled: Healthy Tempe with Global Culture, Innovation and Research Development, Dr. Y Ulung Anggraito, M.Si entitled Potential of Acanthus ilicifolius as a source of secondary metabolites and their production through callus culture, Dr. Aditya Marianti, M.Si entitled Potential of Chitosan as A Heavy Metal Antitoxicant and Prof. Dr. drh. R. Susanti, MP entitled Black Garlic as a Prebiotic. While lecturers from the Institute of Biological Sciences, FS, UM include: Dr. Zazali bin Alias ​​entitled: Plant as source of inhibitors to human GSTpi
The discussion session on research results was presented by Prof. Dr. Noor Aini Habibah, M.Si. He delivered the results of the collaborative research conducted between FMIPA UNNES and FS UM entitled: Identification of Medicinal Plants and Their Bioactive Compound Used as Prevention by Rural Community in Indonesia – Malaysia. Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Ari Yuniastuti, M.Kes delivered the plan for a Research Collaboration entitled: The Use of Moringa Oliefera Among Indonesian and Malaysian Family: Potential Therapeutic Applications, Ethnomedicine and Toxicological Aspects.
Discussion of joint publications related to the results of the research that has been conducted, including discussing the planned title of the article, the names of the authors involved in compiling the article and the plan for the journal intended for publication of the article, planned to be a WoS indexed journal. The warm discussion session between FMIPA UNNES and FS UM became an important moment in this meeting. The potential for collaboration in the field of research and other programs is very open to be followed up.
In addition to the colloquium, discussion of research results and publication of articles, the delegation of the Biology Department of FMIPA UNNES also met with the CEO of MR MORINGA SDN.BHD, Dr. Hj. Maemunah. She told the history of the establishment of the Moringa-based herbal industry in Trengganu, Malaysia. The event was closed with the signing of the Implementation of Arrangement (IA), exchange of souvenirs between the two parties, then followed by a group photo session and continued with a friendly gathering as a sign of close family ties and partnership between the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Semarang State University and the Faculty of Science, Universiti Malaya.
