A great attention has been paid by Universitas Negeri Semarang to the potential of students in entrepreneurship. Even, this has been directly covered in the curriculum of all study programs at Universitas Negeri Semarang by requiring the “entrepreneurship” course for all students. To encourage and facilitate the entrepreneurial potential of students, the chemistry and chemistry education study programs, the faculty of mathematics and natural sciences Universitas Negeri Semarang together with the chemistry education study programs of Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia and Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha with the support of the Leading University Project for International Cooperation (LUPIC) Program from Sogang University Korea organized the 2024 chemistry entrepreneurship expo.
This event, which was officially opened by the Dean of the faculty of mathematics and natural sciences, Universitas Negeri Semarang, Prof. Dr. Edy Cahyono, M.Si. on Friday, June 7, 2024, involved the 4th semester undergraduate students of chemistry and chemistry education study programs. This event which was also attended by the Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, Zaenal Abidin, Ph.D., was very lively, as seen from the many stands filled the upper parking area of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. This activity was held as a means of disseminating and evaluating created-by-students products after being released to the market in a small scope as well as to support student start-ups. Various products were exhibited and could be purchased at the expo, from food and beverage products, hygiene products, skin care products, health products, etc.
In addition to involving students who are taking entrepreneurship courses this semester, this event was also enlivened by the presence of non-student tenants, even from vendors outside Universitas Negeri Semarang. For example, Cimory milk products, various frozen food products, fast food, and home-cooked food from residents around Universitas Negeri Semarang. The enthusiasm of the participants and visitors of the 2024 Chemistry Entrepreneurship Expo was very apparent, especially with the musical entertainment that added to the joyful atmosphere. This event provides a great hope that graduates of the chemistry and chemistry study programs of the faculty of mathematics and natural sciences Universitas Negeri Semarang will not only be proficient in chemistry and chemistry education, but by using the knowledge they have learned, they will also be able to create marketable products that can support the family life while creating jobs for others.
