Semarang- Head of Central Java BKSDA – Mr. Darmanto, S.P., M.AP., gave a public lecture on natural resource conservation and ecosystems, especially in Central Java on Monday (3/6) at FMIPA UNNES. The public lecture was attended by lecturers and students from the Bachelor of Biology, Bachelor of Biology Education, Bachelor of Environmental Sciences and Master of Science Education study programs totaling 150 participants. He explained that the Central Java BKSDA manages 33 conservation areas in the form of National Parks, Nature Reserves, Wildlife Reserves, Community Forest Parks, Buru Parks spread across Central Java. The Central Java BKSDA also conserves wild plants and animals inside and outside the area and has an obligation to disseminate conservation information to the public.
Priority Conservation Program
He conveyed the priority programs for natural resource and ecosystem conservation that were being implemented at the Central Java BKSDA. The implementation of this conservation program aims to provide credible natural resource conservation data in the future, including data on biodiversity, especially protected rare animals and plants. To realize this program, BKSDA is establishing partnerships with local communities to optimize conservation functions.
“The application of innovative technology such as camera traps, drones and geospatial maps is very useful for monitoring the condition of wildlife and plants up to date, so that if something happens, it can be handled immediately and the data is recorded properly,” he said.
The Head of the Central Java BKSDA also discussed opportunities for research, education and service in the field of natural resource conservation which are still wide open, such as pangolins, Balinese curik, Javan eagle and many more. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between related parties, such as universities, research institutions and the community, in efforts to conserve natural resources and ecosystems. Like this lecture, which is a form of collaboration between FMIPA UNNES and BKSDA Central Java.

After the presentation of the material, participants were given the opportunity to ask questions and answers to the Head of BKSDA. Students were very enthusiastic about asking questions, as evidenced by the many questions regarding monitoring efforts, invasive species and illegal trade in protected and wild animals as well as environmental pollution in conservation areas. The Head of the Central Java BKSDA conveyed the importance of mediation before entering the legal arena, because it could be that the perpetrator does not know that he is keeping protected animals.
Signing of the Implementation of Agreement (IA)
The activity ended with the signing of the Implementation of Agreement (IA) between FMIPA UNNES and BKSDA Central Java. This signing aims to strengthen cooperation between the two parties in efforts to conserve natural resources and ecosystems in Central Java.
