Training on Household Organic Waste ManagementIn the midst of the never-ending waste problem, the Semarang State University community service team led by chemistry lecturer FMIPA UNNES, Dr. Triastuti Sulistyaningsih, M. Si went into the community of Rejosari Village, Pringsurat District, Temanggung Regency to provide knowledge and skills in managing organic waste. This activity was based on the team’s findings when they visited the village and found that people were still processing their organic waste by burning it or throwing it into the river, which of course would have a bad impact on the village environment. Furthermore, as a result of the agreement between the service team and partners, organic waste management training will be held and will be continued with joint planting of vegetable seeds.
The UNNES community service team consisting of Mohammad Alauhdin, Ph.D, Dr. Nuni Widiarti, M.Si, Yuan Maylia Rosanti, S.Si, and 3 students, Kaswati Nur Utami, Ika Jati Wahyuningsih, and Raden Muhammad Syawal Aldaffa held training and assistance to the Rejosari Village community on how to process organic waste into compost and eco enzymes. This activity was attended by 40 participants and attended by Rejosari Village Officials. The activity began with the signing of a cooperation document between the FMIPA UNNES Chemistry Group, represented by the Coordinator of the Chemistry Education Study Program, Dr. Agung Tri Prasetya, M. Si., with the Rejosari Village Government.
In this activity, the service team provides education regarding the dangers of waste, the benefits of organic waste and how to make compost and eco enzyme based on household organic waste. Apart from gaining knowledge, participants also increase their skills by directly practicing making compost and eco enzyme from organic waste they bring from home, guided by the service team. The service team also facilitated participants with compost bags and wall planters at the end of the training for program sustainability.
The people of Rejosari Village were very enthusiastic in participating in this activity. They. This was seen when providing material, many questions were asked and during the practice of making compost and eco enzyme. The Head of Rejosari Village and the Head of Rejosari Hamlet welcomed this activity and hoped that the activity could be held sustainably. They hope that with this training, the people of Rejosari Village can manage organic waste well and participate in preserving the environment.
