Semarang, 30 May 2024 – Dr. Edy Wijanarko, S.Si., M.Sc. Lemigas ESDM Exploration Researcher, alumni of the Physics Study Program FMIPA Semarang State University attended a guest lecture at the Physics Study Program at Semarang State University to share about how to work at LEMIGAS. Mr. Edy said that Lemigas runs services from upstream to downstream which are several processes in ESDM in the energy and mineral resources sector which includes oil and gas, coal and geothermal. Lemigas services are divided into upstream and downstream. The upstream part includes exploration and exploitation, while the downstream includes oil processing, gas processing, oil and gas product applications, techno-economics, calibration, proficiency testing, LSPRO, and others.
Mr. Edy said that being a student is not only intelligent, but also must be adaptive, and have a good attitude which is a provision for working in industry. Apart from that, student portfolios are important when used to apply for jobs because good results come from good performance during work.
Mr. Edy said that for practical field work or internships, mentors in industry are different from laboratory assistants while they are students. They will guide but cannot be intense due to several things such as the large number of work projects that must be carried out. Therefore, students need to equip themselves with at least 50% preparation of either theory or mastery of the software they will be working on before undertaking practical field work or internships. Because in its application, apart from mathematical skills, other abilities are needed so that when doing a job you have to know the method and you have to know what is being aimed at. Pak Edy gave an example when conducting oil and gas exploration, we are not only required to use the methods, but we also have to know what the target is.
In the discussion session, Mr. Edy said that to do an internship at Lemigas, you just need to go through the flow that has been provided with the note of making a good proposal in the sense of understanding what you plan to do well. So, with 3 months, it is hoped that students can complete their internship well and optimally. Apart from that, Mr. Dr. Drs. M. Aryono Adhi. M. The Physics Lecturer at Semarang State University said that when students do an internship, they should maximize it by working more deeply on what they have done during the internship to become a Final Project or Thesis so that the knowledge gained can be maximized.
