Today, Wednesday-Thursday, May 15-16 2024, hydroponic vegetable harvesting activities in the form of kale and spinach have been carried out at the Semarang State University (UNNES) Hydroponic Garden. This activity was attended by Lecturers and students of the Horticulture Cultivation Course, Science Education Study Program, FMIPA UNNES. This hydroponic vegetable harvesting activity is a project from the Horticulture Cultivation Course. Vegetable seeds have been planted since April.
The event started at 07.00 WIB with remarks from Prof. Dr. Amin Retnoningsih, M.Si who conveyed the importance of hydroponic cultivation as a modern agricultural solution that is environmentally friendly and efficient. He also emphasized the important role of students in the development and application of this agricultural technology in the future. Furthermore, he also explained the hydroponic techniques and processes that had been implemented in the UNNES garden. He highlighted several advantages of the hydroponic system, such as more efficient use of water, better nutrient control, and the ability to plant on limited land.
Demonstration on how to harvest kale and spinach guided by the Pusbangvasi UNNES hydroponics team. Participants were given the opportunity to be directly involved in the harvesting process. The harvested kale and spinach are then weighed to record the production results from the hydroponic garden. The harvest will be sold to the community around campus such as lecturers, staff and the general public.
The event ended with a question and answer session and discussion regarding further development of the UNNES hydroponic garden. The students and other participants conveyed their ideas and suggestions for increasing productivity and diversifying the types of crops to be planted. Harvesting finished at 09.00 WIB and closed with a group photo of all activity participants.
