Semarang, 22 April 2024 – Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) Semarang State University (UNNES) held a World Earth Day celebration by holding an outreach event about the importance of greening the earth while exercising. This lively event was attended by hundreds of students and lecturers from various departments at FMIPA UNNES.
The activity started with morning exercise together in the main campus field. The participants looked enthusiastic in following every exercise movement guided by professional instructors. Apart from being a form of togetherness, this morning exercise also aims to maintain a healthy body and stay fit.
After the exercise session, the event continued with socialization about greening delivered by several environmental experts from UNNES. In their presentations, the experts explained the importance of preserving nature through reforestation and the role of students in this effort. They also provide practical tips on how to plant trees properly and correctly as well as the types of plants that are suitable for planting in the campus environment.
Dean of FMIPA UNNES, Prof. Dr. Edy Cahyono, M.Sc., in his speech stated, “Earth Day is an important momentum for all of us to care more about the environment. “With this activity, we hope to increase awareness of the importance of going green and maintaining a healthy body through exercise.”
Apart from socialization, this event was also filled with tree planting activities around campus. Each participant is given a tree seed to plant in a designated area. It is hoped that this activity can make a real contribution to greening efforts and improve air quality in the campus environment.
Not only that, the committee also provided various educational booths that displayed information about climate change, recycling, and ways to keep the environment sustainable. These booths are managed by students from various departments who are members of the environmental lover community at UNNES.
The World Earth Day celebration activities at FMIPA UNNES ended with a group photo session and the presentation of awards to the participants who were most active in greening activities. With high enthusiasm, the participants hope that events like this can continue to be held regularly and become an inspiration for other campuses to take part in preserving the earth.
“Hopefully this event can be a good first step for all of us to care more about the environment and health,” said one of the students who took part in the event.
Through this activity, FMIPA UNNES shows its commitment to supporting the greening movement and invites the entire academic community to continue to contribute to keeping the earth green and healthy.
