On Wednesday, October 4, 2023, lecturers from the Physics Study Program at FMIPA UNNES conducted Visiting Researchers activities at the Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (FKEE UTHM). This visiting researcher activity conducted by lecturers from the Physics Study Program at FMIPA UNNES is an implementation of the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) resulting from the World Class Professor program in 2021.

The activities included a Forum Group Discussion (FGD) and laboratory visits. The research team, led by Dr. Ian Yulianti, M.Eng., and including Dr. Budi Astuti, M.Sc., was warmly received by the head of the Optical Communication and Artificial Intelligence (OCAI) Research Group, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Noran bin Cholan. During the FGD, researchers from OCAI presented potential collaborative research projects for the coming year. The first presentation was given by Dr. Maslina binti Yaacob on the topic of optical gas sensors using spectroscopy. The second presentation was delivered by Dr. Rahmat bi Talib on visible light telecommunications. Following the presentations, a discussion took place regarding joint research plans and publications in the fields of optical sensors and optical communication.

During the laboratory visit, the UNNES team received explanations about the equipment available in the OCAI laboratory that could be used in collaborative research. Based on the discussions and laboratory visits, several potential research topics were identified for further development in collaborative research.

The Visiting Researcher program is expected to strengthen the cooperation between FKEE UTHM and FMIPA UNNES. This collaboration can be extended to other activities such as credit transfers, student internships, faculty exchanges, joint mentoring, and other MBKM (Merdeka Belajar Kurikulum Mahasiswa) activities.
