On Tuesday to Friday, October 3-6, 2023, lecturers from the Physics Study Program at FMIPA UNNES conducted Visiting Researchers activities at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (FKE UTM). This activity consisted of coordination meetings with FKE UTM officials, Guest Lectures, collaborative research discussions, and laboratory visits. This activity is one of the implementations of the QS100 international collaborative research funded by UNNES’s 2023 DIPA.
During this event, the research team led by Dr. Ian Yulianti, M.Eng., and members of the research team, Dr. Budi Astuti, M.Sc., were warmly received by the Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FKE) UTM, Prof. Dr. Jefri Din, Prof. Dr. Syed Abdul Rahman bin Syed Abu Bakar as the Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs, Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Nurul Mu’azzah Binti Abdul Latif as the Head of the Communication Engineering Division, Prof. Ir. Dr. Sevia Mahdaliza Binti Idrus, and Dr. Muhammad Yusof Mohd Noor as collaborative researchers from the Lightwave Communication Research Group (LCRG).
Dean Prof. Jafri welcomed this collaborative research activity and hopes that future collaborations can take other forms to achieve mutual performance. Although there is an MoU between UNNES and UTM, Prof. Jafri mentioned the need for an official Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between FKE UTM and FMIPA UNNES as a legal framework for future collaborations between the two parties. Finally, Prof. Jafri welcomed them back to FKE UTM, considering that both members of the UNNES Physics research team are alumni of FKE UTM.
During the Guest Lecture session, the first topic was presented by Dr. Ian Yulianti, M.Eng., on Optical Waveguides and their applications for sensors, followed by a presentation on SiCOI thin films for Schottky Diode applications by Dr. Budi Astuti, M.Sc. The Guest Lecture was attended by lecturers from the FKE UTM. Lastly, discussions were held regarding further research for the year 2024.
On the following day, Thursday, October 5, 2023, a group discussion forum was held concerning draft articles, which are mandatory outputs of the QS100 international collaborative research. Furthermore, the UNNES research team visited laboratories to inspect facilities that could be used for upcoming collaborative research. It is hoped that this visit will have a positive impact on FMIPA UNNES.
In addition to the Visiting Researchers activities, the research team from the Physics Study Program at FMIPA UNNES also initiated collaboration activities between FKE UTM and the Physics Study Program at FMIPA UNNES as a follow-up to the coordination meeting with FKE officials, involving the preparation of a Letter of Agreement (LoA).
