In their 7th semester, Joshu Leonardy, a student of the Physics program at FMIPA UNNES, is currently participating in international Prigel activities as part of the Independent Campus Learning (Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka) initiative. This activity is partially funded by the Academic and Student Affairs Division of FMIPA UNNES, as a form of support for the student’s participation. During the International Prigel activity, the student is engaged in simulating a glucose sensor based on waveguide with the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) method, which is a continuation of the National Prigel conducted by BRIN. Additionally, the simulations conducted are part of the international QS100 research collaboration led by Dr. Ian Yulianti, M. Eng.
Throughout the International Prigel activity at FKE UTM, the student is guided by their field supervisor, Dr. Muhammad Yusof Mohd. Noor, and assisted by Photonic laboratory technician, Encik Ahmad Hassan. The facilities provided to the Prigel student at FKE UTM include access to simulation software called Photonic BeamProp, access to the Photonic laboratory, and access to the UTM library. In addition to simulations, the student also receives explanations on the use of equipment in the Photonic laboratory, such as the Optical Spectrum Analyzer (OSA), ASE Laser source, Optical Power Meter (OPM), and optical fiber fusion splicer. As a positive outcome of this International Prigel activity, the student has been offered an opportunity to pursue further studies at FKE UTM after completing their undergraduate program in the Physics program at FMIPA UNNES.
The Dean of FMIPA UNNES, Prof. Dr. Edy Cahyono, M.Si., expressed, “I fully support the students from the Physics Program at FMIPA UNNES who are participating in international Prigel activities at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. This is a very positive step to enrich their knowledge and strengthen the relationship between the two educational institutions.” It is hoped that this activity will serve as motivation for other students within FMIPA UNNES to participate in International Prigel activities.
