FMIPA UNNES, in collaboration with the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo) and Difapedia, successfully organized a Digital Literacy Workshop with the theme “Empowering People with Disabilities to be Independent and Empowered through Inclusive Digital Transformation.” The workshop took place on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, from 08:00 to 13:00 at Building D12, 3rd Floor, FMIPA Auditorium, Universitas Negeri Semarang.
The Digital Literacy Workshop for People with Disabilities was attended by both disabled and non-disabled friends. The event, moderated by All Fine Loretha, S.Pd., M.Pd. (Lecturer in the UNNES Non-Formal Education Program), featured three speakers: Abdurrahman Hamas Nahdly, Lalu Bintang Wahyu Putra, and Shindita Aprilia Nirmalasari.
During this occasion, Abdurrahman Hamas Nahdly presented on the topic “Safety and Wisdom in the Digital Space.” He mentioned that there are four pillars that need to be upheld and developed in the current digital era: competence, safety, culture, and ethics. He shared data from the 2022 Indonesia Digital Literacy Index, which scored 3.54.
“This score falls in the moderate range. Additionally, the sub-index with the lowest score is in digital safety. Apart from digital safety, what needs to be watched out for nowadays is fake news/hoaxes, especially with the upcoming elections,” Abdurrahman stated (13/9).
The second speaker, Lalu Bintang Wahyu Putra, delivered a presentation on “Social Media as a Tool for Disability Advocacy.” He emphasized that people with disabilities must voice their rights and grievances themselves to gain more attention, as content voiced directly by individuals with disabilities will have a greater impact.
“Some content ideas that can be shared by people with disabilities on social media include hobbies, daily activities, or even reviewing the accessibility for people with disabilities in public places,” said Lalu Bintang (13/9).
During the same event, Shindita Aprilia Nirmalasari also presented on “E-commerce Digital Marketing.”
“Now is a good time to start selling through online marketplaces because we are in the digital era. When selling, prioritize trust and don’t just chase profits,” Shindita explained (13/9).
She mentioned that the key to starting a digital business is to “just start.” If you don’t have a product, you can become a reseller or a dropshipper with minimal capital.
The presentation session was followed by a Q&A session between the speakers and workshop participants. The participants showed great enthusiasm as evidenced by their active participation and the numerous questions, suggestions, and critiques raised during the Q&A session.
