From July 20th to 24th, 2023, Banyusidi Village witnessed an extraordinary initiative that brought a new spirit to its community. The ABDI MIPA 2023 program, which lasted for five consecutive days, was successfully carried out.
Throughout the five-day event, various activities were prioritized, with a primary focus on education, social, environmental, and health-related activities. This year, ABDI MIPA adopted the theme “Gerakan Abdi, Tanamkan Dedikasi untuk Masyarakat Bersinergi” (Abdi Movement, Instilling Dedication for Collaborative Society). The service program was inaugurated by Abdul Jabbar, S.Si., M.Ling. (Assistant to BEM FMIPA UNNES) and concluded by Zaenal Abidin, S.Si., M.Cs., Ph.D. (Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs at FMIPA).
On the first day, the residents of Banyusidi Village actively participated in the maggot cultivation training with high enthusiasm.
“The Maggot Cultivation Training held in Banyusidi Village aims to address the issue of organic waste or vegetable waste, which is a significant concern in the village, given that most of the villagers are farmers who primarily cultivate vegetables,” said Repa, the moderator of the Maggot Cultivation Training at Balai Desa Banyusidi, Kab. Magelang (20/7/2023).
In addition, there was also the activity “MIPA Mengajar” (MIPA Teaching) held at SDN Banyusidi, and the children were delighted with this event. Furthermore, there was a Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) screening to identify health conditions among the residents, including blood sugar and blood pressure checks.
On the second day, the committee and volunteers continued the “MIPA Mengajar” activity with the same purpose, followed by free lessons for children around the post. Some committee members and volunteers engaged in sports with the local residents, and the NCD screening was conducted again.
On the third day, the first activity was “MIPA Mengajar” at SDN Banyusidi, followed by competitions for children, such as poetry reading, coloring contests, and ranking contests. The competitions were smoothly and successfully carried out due to the enthusiasm of the children from SDN Banyusidi. In the evening, the ABDI MIPA committee and volunteers reopened the free lessons to help children in Banyusidi Village who needed additional support in their studies.
On the fourth day, the Sunday morning began with a community service where all the committee members and volunteers cleaned the surrounding environment, including a canal filled with garbage, to restore the water flow. This was followed by various games with the children of Banyusidi Village, along with the committee and volunteers, to share happiness and strengthen relationships. They also conducted free lessons again in the afternoon.
On the fifth day, there was “MIPA Mengajar” activity, along with the award ceremony for the children of SDN Banyusidi who had won the previous competitions as a form of appreciation. Some other committee members and volunteers participated in a “posyandu” activity (integrated health service) with the village midwife to immunize toddlers in the village. This activity included measuring weight, height, arm circumference, and head circumference. Additionally, there were NCD screenings, checking uric acid, blood sugar, and blood pressure for people aged 15 to 60 years old.
ABDI MIPA BEM FMIPA UNNES 2023 expressed gratitude to all the committee members, volunteers, and partners who collaborated to make the ABDI MIPA program successful. With unwavering determination, ABDI MIPA BEM FMIPA UNNES 2023 successfully completed the community service program for five consecutive days. This valuable experience will always be cherished and serve as inspiration to contribute more to the community.
