The Implementation Team for the Student Organization Capacity Building Program (PPK Ormawa) of the Engineering Research Club, Faculty of Engineering, Semarang State University (EneRC FT UNNES) officially held a socialization and program opening event in Kandri Village, Gunungpati District, Semarang City, Central Java, on Friday (June 19, 2026). The event, held in the Kandri Village Hall, marked the initial step in implementing the program, themed “Strengthening Kandri Tourism Village through Smart-Agro Edu-Tourism Integration to Achieve Sustainable Educational Tourism in Kandri Village, Semarang.”
The event was attended by various community members and stakeholders, including the Kandri Village Head, Ms. Mutmainah, S.E., Village Officials, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, UNNES, Prof. Dr. Wirawan Sumbodo, M.T., Vice Dean 2 for Planning and Resources Dr. Sri Handayani, M.Pd., Vice Dean 3 for Business, Research, and Cooperation Rusiyanto, S.Pd., M.T., PIC UNNES, Supervising Lecturers, Student Organization Administrators, and community members such as neighborhood associations (RT/RW), the Pandanaran Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis), Farmers’ Groups, the Self-Help Agriculture and Rural Training Center (P4S), MSMEs, the Family Welfare Movement (PKK), religious teachers (ustaz), and the Youth Organization (Karang Taruna).
The event was officially opened with remarks from the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering UNNES, the Head of Kandri, and the Chair of the PPK Ormawa EneRC Implementation Team.
In his remarks, the Dean of FT UNNES Prof. Dr. Wirawan Sumbodo, M.T., stated that this activity could be a strategic step in strengthening the tourism sector in Kandri Tourism Village. He assessed that the educational tourism idea proposed by the PPK Ormawa Implementation Team had the potential to become a collaborative space for various community elements. He hopes that this smart agricultural educational tour will also encourage the strengthening of other community elements, including local MSMEs. He also added that student involvement in community service programs like this provides a means to directly implement knowledge within the community, while simultaneously fostering sustainable collaboration between the campus and the village.
Echoing this sentiment, the Head of Kandri, Ibu Mutmainah, S.E., welcomed and appreciated the presence of the EneRC PPK Ormawa Team, which had received funding from Belmawa. She expressed her gratitude for Kandri Village being selected as the location for this community service program.
Dissemination of Socialization Materials
Before the presentation of the socialization materials, the community was first directed to complete a questionnaire to gauge their initial understanding of the program and to measure the success of the socialization.
Through this activity, the community was introduced to the background, objectives, and benefits of the program, including the educational tourism concept, the Smart Organic Garden (KOP), as well as the series of programs that will be implemented during the community service period and the forms of community involvement within them. In addition to building shared understanding, this activity also provided a space for dialogue between students and the community to ensure the program aligns with the local needs and potential of Kandri Village.
The event proceeded smoothly and participatory. The community in attendance demonstrated support for the program’s implementation, particularly with strong enthusiasm for the proposed tourism concept, which integrates appropriate technology as one of the attractions of agricultural educational tourism.
At the end of the socialization session, the community was again asked to complete a questionnaire to assess their understanding of the material presented.
This socialization and program opening activity align with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 1 (No Poverty) through increasing the income of the Kandri community through the development of educational tourism and strengthening local MSMEs; SDG 4 (Quality Education) through the presence of agricultural educational tourism as a learning tool for students and the younger generation; and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) through the creation of new economic opportunities for Pokdarwis (Tourism Groups), Farmer Groups, and MSMEs.
