Joko Widodo.

History

The history of the development of the State University of Semarang, which was previously named IKIP Semarang, has begun with the establishment of various teacher education institutions above SMA. The teacher education institutions are: Middelbaar Onderwijzer A Cursus (MO-A) and Middelbaar Onderwijzer B Cursus (MO-B). Both are educational institutions prepared by the Dutch Colonial Government with the aim of preparing SMTP and SMTA teachers. The MO-A and MO-B courses were held in Semarang until 1950. In 1950, the MO-A Course became the B-I Course and the MO-B Course became the B-II Course which was held until 1960.

Furthermore, the development of UNNES can be seen from the following stages.

Period 1960-1963: Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) and Sports College (STO)

In 1960, Course B-I and Course B-II were integrated into Diponegoro University to become a Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP). In 1963, the Department of Physical Education, which was originally part of Course B-II, was separated into a Sports College (STO) which was independent under the Department of Sports.

Period 1963-1965: Institute of Teacher Training and Education (IKIP) Yogyakarta Semarang branch

In 1963 a Presidential Decree was issued for the establishment of IKIP as an educational institution for education personnel. at that time there were only four IKIP namely in Jakarta, Bandung, Malang and Yogyakarta. Undip FKIP which was considered unable to stand alone was determined to be the Semarang branch of the Yogyakarta IKIP.

Period 1965-1999: IKIP Semarang

IKIP Yogyakarta Semarang branch is growing rapidly. In order for its development to be more focused in the future, pending the Presidential Decree, the Minister of PTIP issued the Decree of the Minister of PTIP No. 40 of 1965 dated March 8, 1965, which established the Semarang branch of IKIP Yogyakarta to become IKIP Semarang which consisted of the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Literature and Arts Teacher Training, and the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Teaching Faculty of Exact Sciences, and the Faculty of Engineering Teacher Training. In 1977 the sports teacher education program returned to its parent in a new forum called the Faculty of Sports Teacher Training (FKIK).

Period 1999 to present: State University of Semarang (UNNES)

With the issuance of Presidential Decree No. 124 of 1999 concerning the change of IKIP Semarang, Bandung and Medan into universities, IKIP Semarang was then named Semarang State University which was abbreviated as UNNES. In 2000 the names of the faculties in UNNES changed to: Faculty of Education, Faculty of Languages and Arts, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Sports Science, and the Postgraduate Program. In 2006 the Faculty of Economics was established, a year later the Faculty of Law, UNNES, was established. The establishment of these two new faculties is a consequence of becoming a university.
