Universitas Negeri Semarang memberdayakan pendidikan dalam mencetak generasi pemimpin masa depan

Universitas Negeri Semarang merupakan salah satu Perguruan Tinggi Negeri (PTN) di Indonesia yang kini dipimpin oleh Rektor Prof. Dr. S. Martono. UNNES merupakan salah satu perguruan tinggi eks IKIP yang statusnya meningkat menjadi universitas. Kampus utama terletak di kawasan Sekaran (Gunungpati), kawasan selatan Kota Semarang, Jawa Tengah. Dan kampus lainnya berada di Ngaliyan (Semarang), Kelud (Semarang), Bendan Ngisor (Semarang) dan di Kemandungan, Tegal. UNNES pada tanggal 20 Oktober 2022 telah menjadi Perguruan Tinggi Negeri Badan Hukum (PTN-BH) berdasarkan Peraturan Pemerintah Republik Indonesia No. 36 Tahun 2022 tanggal 20 Oktober 2022 yang ditandatangani langsung oleh Presiden Republik Indonesia, Ir. Joko Widodo.

Sejarah

Sejarah perkembangan Universitas Negeri Semarang yang sebelumnya bernama IKIP Semarang diawali dengan berdirinya berbagai lembaga pendidikan guru di atas SMA. Institusi pendidikan guru tersebut adalah: Middelbaar Onderwijzer A Cursus (MO-A) dan Middelbaar Onderwijzer B Cursus (MO-B). Keduanya merupakan lembaga pendidikan yang disiapkan oleh Pemerintah Kolonial Belanda dengan tujuan menyiapkan guru SMTP dan SMTA. Kursus MO-A dan MO-B diadakan di Semarang hingga tahun 1950. Pada tahun 1950, Kursus MO-A menjadi Kursus B-I dan Kursus MO-B menjadi Kursus B-II yang diselenggarakan hingga tahun 1960.

Lebih lanjut, perkembangan UNNES dapat dilihat dari tahapan-tahapan berikut.

Periode 1960-1963 : Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan (FKIP) dan Sekolah Tinggi Olahraga (STO)

Pada tahun 1960, Kursus B-I dan Kursus B-II diintegrasikan ke dalam Universitas Diponegoro menjadi Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan (FKIP). Pada tahun 1963 Jurusan Pendidikan Jasmani yang semula merupakan bagian dari Kursus B-II dipisah menjadi Sekolah Tinggi Olahraga (STO) yang berdiri sendiri di bawah Jurusan Olahraga.

Periode 1963-1965: Institut Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan (IKIP) Yogyakarta cabang Semarang

Pada tahun 1963 dikeluarkan Keputusan Presiden tentang pendirian IKIP sebagai lembaga pendidikan bagi tenaga kependidikan. saat itu hanya ada empat IKIP yaitu di Jakarta, Bandung, Malang dan Yogyakarta. FKIP Undip yang dianggap tidak bisa berdiri sendiri ditetapkan menjadi IKIP Yogyakarta cabang Semarang.

Periode 1965-1999 : IKIP Semarang

IKIP Yogyakarta Cabang Semarang berkembang pesat. Agar pengembangannya lebih terarah ke depan, sambil menunggu Keputusan Presiden, Menteri PTIP mengeluarkan Keputusan Menteri PTIP No. 40 Tahun 1965 tanggal 8 Maret 1965, yang menetapkan IKIP Yogyakarta cabang Semarang menjadi menjadi IKIP Semarang yang terdiri dari Fakultas Ilmu Pendidikan, Fakultas Keguruan Sastra dan Seni, dan Fakultas Ilmu Sosial, Fakultas Keguruan Ilmu Eksakta, dan Fakultas Keguruan Teknik. Pada tahun 1977 program pendidikan guru olahraga kembali ke induknya dalam wadah baru bernama Fakultas Keguruan Olahraga (FKIK).

Periode 1999 s/d sekarang: Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES)

Dengan dikeluarkannya Keputusan Presiden Nomor 124 Tahun 1999 tentang perubahan IKIP Semarang, Bandung dan Medan menjadi Perguruan Tinggi, maka IKIP Semarang kemudian bernama Universitas Negeri Semarang yang disingkat UNNES. Pada tahun 2000 nama fakultas di UNNES berubah menjadi: Fakultas Ilmu Pendidikan, Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni, Fakultas Ilmu Sosial, Fakultas Matematika dan Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam, Fakultas Teknik, Fakultas Ilmu Keolahragaan, dan Program Pascasarjana. Tahun 2006 Fakultas Ekonomi berdiri, setahun kemudian Fakultas Hukum UNNES berdiri. Pendirian dua fakultas baru ini merupakan konsekuensi menjadi universitas.
