Semarang, August 2, 2026 – The Student Organization Capacity Building Program (PPK Ormawa) of the SGL PGSD Semarang State University (UNNES) once again presented creative learning for children in Podorejo Village through the Tunas Ngrembaka Literacy Corner. The activity, held on Sunday (August 2) at the Palir Science House in Podorejo Village, Ngaliyan District, Semarang City, carried the theme “Creative Literacy: Crafts to Make Keychains from Used Bottle Caps and Wire Feathers.” Thirty-eight children from kindergarten and elementary school participated enthusiastically.
The Tunas Ngrembaka Literacy Corner is one of four literacy corners within the NGREMBAKA AKSARA program developed by the PPK Ormawa SGL PGSD UNNES Team as an effort to build a Sustainable Smart Podorejo Village. Through a practice-based learning approach, this activity aims to improve literacy, creativity, life skills, and environmental awareness from an early age by utilizing used materials to create valuable products.
The series of activities began with a pre-test to determine participants’ initial understanding of the material to be learned. Next, the children learned about used materials, the benefits of recycling, and various examples of creative products that can be made from plastic bottle caps and wire. The material was presented in an interactive and fun manner, making it easy to understand and adapt to the participants’ developmental stage.
In the practical session, participants were divided into two groups based on their educational level. The kindergarten group made key chains using safe and easily shaped chenille wire to develop fine motor coordination and creativity. Meanwhile, the elementary school group made key chains from used bottle caps through a molding process with intensive guidance from the PPK Ormawa Implementation Team, student organizations, and the Task Force. Through this practical work, participants not only learned how to process waste into creative products but also learned the simple concept of processing products that have utility and economic value.
After completing the practical work, participants completed Student Worksheets (SWs) to reinforce the material, followed by a post-test to measure their understanding. This practice-based learning approach (learning by doing) is expected to provide a fun learning experience while fostering creative thinking and environmental awareness.
Nur Indah Wahyuni, M.Pd., a Supervising Lecturer for the Student Organization Development Program (PPK Ormawa) at the UNNES Elementary School Teacher Education Program (PGSD), stated that the university fully supports the program’s implementation as a form of implementing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, particularly in the area of community service.
“We strongly support the implementation of the PPK Ormawa Program because it provides a platform for students to directly apply their knowledge within the community. Through the NGREMBAKA AKSARA program, children gain a fun learning experience while also being equipped with literacy, creativity, and useful skills. We hope this program will have a sustainable impact on the community and serve as a good example of collaboration between universities and the community,” said Nur Indah Wahyuni.
The Head of Podorejo, Yusdi Dwiyantoro, S.H., also expressed his appreciation, stating that the PPK Ormawa Program at the UNNES Elementary School Teacher Education Program (PGSD) has made a real contribution to the community through various empowerment programs targeting all age groups.
“We appreciate the PPK Ormawa SGL PGSD Team from Semarang State University for presenting various empowerment activities in Podorejo Village. The programs implemented are very beneficial in improving literacy, creativity, and community skills, from children and adolescents, productive-age individuals, to the elderly. The various training and programs provided are excellent resources for the community. We hope this collaboration will continue so that together we can realize Podorejo Village as a Sustainable Smart Village,” said Yusdi Dwiyantoro.
Through the Tunas Ngrembaka Literacy Corner, the PPK Ormawa SGL PGSD UNNES Team remains committed to providing an innovative, inclusive, and enjoyable learning space for children. This program is expected to foster a culture of literacy, develop creativity and life skills from an early age, and strengthen environmental awareness by utilizing used materials to create valuable works of art. Along with the three other literacy corners in the NGREMBAKA AKSARA program, this activity is part of the effort to create a smart, creative, independent, and empowered community in Podorejo Village.
