Semarang Regency – Non-Formal Education student interns inaugurated a Reading Corner at the Semarang Regency Women’s Empowerment, Child Protection, and Family Planning Office (DP3AKB) as an effort to support the development of a culture of literacy among employees and visitors.
The Reading Corner was inaugurated on June 22, 2026, in the presence of the Head of the Semarang Regency DP3AKB Office, Dewanto Leksono Wigdado, S.STP, M.M., and his staff. It is located in an area easily accessible to both visitors and employees. This program is one of the innovations initiated and implemented by the interns during their fieldwork at the Semarang Regency DP3AKB.

The Reading Corner was created based on the need for literacy resources that can be used to productively fill their free time. Furthermore, this facility is expected to increase reading interest and provide easier access to information for people visiting the DP3AKB office.
The process of establishing the Reading Corner involved several stages, starting with needs assessment and design planning, collecting and organizing books, and providing supporting facilities such as bookshelves and information media. A variety of reading materials are available, including educational books, self-development books, family health books, child protection books, and general reading materials accessible to a wide range of audiences.

According to the student interns, this program is designed for sustainable use by visitors and staff. With the Reading Corner, people waiting for services can use their time to read and obtain useful information. The presence of the Reading Corner was appreciated by the DP3AKB Semarang Regency, as it aligns with efforts to increase public literacy and supports the creation of an educational and welcoming environment for visitors.
This program also contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 4 (Quality Education) by providing access to learning resources and information that support Quality Education, and Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by strengthening government institutions in providing public access to knowledge and education that supports Lifelong Learning.

Through the Reading Corner, it is hoped that a reading culture will grow within the DP3AKB Semarang Regency, thereby creating a more literate, informed, and empowered society.
