Shelma decided to participate in the Outstanding Student competition because she wanted to realize her dreams and uphold the principle she lives by, “Be great, wise, and beneficial to those around you,” as she stated in an interview conducted on Saturday, 20 December 2025. Meanwhile, Kannitha explained that the competition became a personal challenge for her to step out of her comfort zone and test her capacity to become an Outstanding Student. Although she initially felt insecure, the constant support from people closest to her helped Kannitha overcome her self-doubt. Shelma and Kannitha also shared the challenges they faced during the preparation period, especially as they were in their fifth semester and simultaneously preparing for their proposal seminars. This situation required them to manage their time and energy effectively to maintain balance between academic responsibilities, personal goals, and personal life. Shelma successfully passed the selection based on her portfolio of works, academic and non-academic competitions, and social activities. On the other hand, Kannitha earned her Outstanding Student title through various achievements, including winning several competitions such as a national-level 3 Minute Speech Competition. In addition, Kannitha has experience as a research volunteer in a lecturer’s research project and as a delegate in the Credit Transfer Program to Kasetsart University, Thailand. Her English proficiency also played a supporting role in her achievements.
Their consistency in continuously pushing themselves to move forward, even though small steps in any condition, led them to the achievement they attained. According to Shelma, being an Outstanding Student is not merely about a competition or receiving a sash, but rather a path she chose to bring her dreams to life and contribute meaningfully to the world around her. Kannitha also shared her impression and message from participating in the Outstanding Student Competition, “This was certainly something new for me, and I learned a lot from my fellow Outstanding Student. One thing that I learned is don’t be afraid to try. Take that chance, because for me, I would regret it more if I didn’t try at all.” She said in an interview conducted on Saturday, 20 December 2025. Through the stories of these Outstanding Students, it is hoped that they can serve as motivation and inspiration for other Psychology students at UNNES to continue daring to dream, bring those dreams to life, and keep trying, growing, and contributing positively to their surroundings.
