Eight students from the Faculty of Languages and Arts (FBS), Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) have been selected to participate in the Indonesian for Speakers of Other Languages (BIPA) Internship Program organized by the Association of Indonesian Language and Literature Lecturers (ADOBSI) in collaboration with Yale University, United States.

The annual program is part of an international partnership between ADOBSI and Yale University, a globally renowned institution that consistently ranks among the Top 100 universities in the QS World University Rankings, and a key reference for World Class University (WCU) standards. UNNES is involved in the program as one of the partner universities, sending eight students from different study programs.

Five students come from the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Program: Jannatur Rohmah, Allamanda Kusumaning Anjora, Audya Nilam Nareswari, Tyas Rahma Viani, and Yunanda Eko. One student represents the Indonesian Literature Program, Ananda Dwi Rahayu, while two students come from the French Literature Program, Felix Maruli and Taciel Prahisa.

The internship program will take place from February to March 2026 and will be conducted online. During the program, students will serve as Indonesian language tutors for Yale University students, while also introducing Indonesian language and culture through interactive dialogue and intercultural learning activities.

Vice Dean III of FBS UNNES for Research, Innovation, and Information Systems, Mohamad Yusuf Ahmad Hasyim, Lc., M.A., Ph.D., stated that the program represents a concrete step in strengthening the internationalization of education at UNNES.

“This BIPA internship program supports Key Performance Indicator (IKU) 2, which focuses on students gaining off-campus learning experiences, as well as IKU 6, related to study programs collaborating with world-class partners. Collaboration with Yale University, a QS Top 100 World Class University, significantly strengthens UNNES’ position within global academic networks,” he said, at 3 February 2026.

Meanwhile, the program supervisor, Dr. Wati Istanti, S.Pd., M.Pd., emphasized that the internship provides meaningful experiential learning for students.

“Through this program, students do not only practice teaching Indonesian to international learners, but also develop professional communication skills in a global academic context. This experience is essential in strengthening students’ pedagogical competence, intercultural awareness, and self-confidence,” she explained.

From a World Class University (WCU) perspective, the participation of FBS UNNES students in a collaborative program with Yale University contributes to enhancing institutional reputation, expanding international academic networks, and fostering a sustainable global learning ecosystem.

The program also aligns with UNNES’ commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) by improving access to quality language education and cross-border knowledge exchange, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through strengthened international collaboration between ADOBSI, Yale University, and Universitas Negeri Semarang. Through the BIPA internship program, UNNES expects FBS students to actively contribute to Indonesian language and cultural diplomacy while enhancing the global competitiveness of UNNES graduates.
