The Javanese Language and Literature Student Association (Hima) held a social service activity at the Pondok Diakoni Orphanage in Bawen, Semarang Regency, on Saturday, October 14 2023. Through this activity, Hima wanted to invite people to share kindness with the people around them.
Muhammad Wahab Wahfiudin, a Javanese Literature Study Program student in the class of 2022 who is also a member of the Javanese Language and Literature Association, said that the funds collected from lecturers and students amounted to around IDR 2.9 million. These funds were obtained from fundraising, distributing open donation pamphlets, and Hima’s colleagues selling market snacks to meet the donation target. The fund collection process has started on September 28, 2023.
This activity is a work program from Hima’s C (Communication and Information) department. This work program is usually held if there is a disaster. However, this time, Department C wanted to maximize existing programs through social service activities.
The location for carrying out social service was the Pondok Diakoni Bawen Orphanage because an average of around 50 children had backgrounds as victims of the Papuan war and parents who were unable to care for their children. One hundred one people are living in the orphanage, and 50 people are children from grade 1 elementary school to grade 1 high school.
The implementation of the social service activities began with an opening which began with remarks from the committee chairman, the Hima chairman, and the caretaker of the social home (Mrs Heydi), followed by group prayer, handing over money and necessities, then eating together and closing with outbound activities. “We hope that this activity can be continued again in the next period,” he said.
