Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) continues to strengthen the role of Rumah Ilmu Library as a center for literacy, research, and lifelong learning accessible to both the university community and the general public. Through its Green Digital Library concept, UNNES integrates physical library services, digital technology, and conservation principles to broaden public access to knowledge resources.
Rumah Ilmu Library welcomes public visitors from Monday to Friday, 08:00–15:30 WIB. Visitors can access general collections, reading spaces, and scientific references free of charge, subject to the library’s visitor registration and entry procedures. Meanwhile, digital services are available 24 hours a day through the UNNES Library Portal, enabling users to explore the library catalogue, scientific journals, academic repositories, and electronic book collections.
To ensure orderly and secure access, members of the public are required to report to library staff, present a valid identification document, and complete the guest register.
Beyond its role as a centre for borrowing and accessing books, Rumah Ilmu Library is designed as an inclusive learning environment. Its facilities include reading rooms, collaborative discussion areas, multimedia rooms, an inclusive reading room for people with disabilities, a lactation room, and an open-air reading garden. The building’s design incorporates natural lighting, cross-ventilation, and green spaces to create a comfortable learning environment aligned with UNNES’s conservation principles.
Rumah Ilmu Library holds more than 200,000 printed items alongside a range of digital resources. It serves an average of approximately 985 visits from the university community and 235 visits from the general public each day. In addition to providing access to scientific resources and institutional repositories, UNNES manages 193 open-access academic journals through the UNNES Journal Portal, supporting the wider dissemination of research findings.
These library services reflect UNNES’s commitment, as a Conservation University, to expanding inclusive access to knowledge, harnessing digital technology, and fostering a culture of literacy. By combining physical facilities, online services, and resources that accommodate diverse visitor needs, Rumah Ilmu Library continues to contribute to an inclusive educational ecosystem and lifelong learning opportunities for the wider community.
