UNNES is reinforcing its commitment to gender equity by conducting a series of specialized mentoring programs designed to support and elevate female students across all academic disciplines. Each faculty has developed its own programs to empower female students. From leadership programs to focus group discussion, these initiatives aim to nurture leadership, boost graduation rates, and help women navigate both academic and professional spheres.
Some of the programs conducted throughout 2025 are:
- Focus Group Discussion on Women’s Empowerment
The Faculty of Law, State University of Semarang (FH UNNES) held the International Forum on Sustainable Development Goals 2025: Focus Group Discussion on Women Empowerment which took place in the GSG Room on the 3rd Floor of the Dean of FH UNNES. The event, which started at 09.00 WIB, was attended by academics, researchers, students, and strategic partners from both within and outside the country, and was dominated by female participants.
This international forum is a productive discussion space on women’s empowerment issues from a global and national perspective. Through the Focus Group Discussion (FGD), the participants reviewed the challenges and opportunities in strengthening the role of women in various sectors, including education, law, economy, and sustainable development. The event was attended by female students, lecturers, and staff at the Faculty of Law.
- Gender Equality-Based Studies
An academic event themed “Mainstreaming Gender, Children, and Social Inclusion” was held at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) on Thursday, November 13, 2025. One of the key discussions centered on the establishment of a gender studies center—a welcome development for researchers and academics alike. The event provided a platform for faculty members and students from various disciplines to share their perspectives. The event was attended by lecturers and all female students at the faculty.
The gender mainstreaming strategy cannot stop at the policy level; it must be implemented throughout the entire process, from planning and budgeting to execution and evaluation. Gender equality is more easily understood when linked to real-world contexts, for instance, within research, prior to the formulation of policy. In this way, a gender perspective becomes an integral part of policy, rather than merely an add-on.
- Strengthening Gender Equality through Kartini Day Commemoration
On Monday, 21 April 2025, all lecturers, administrative staff, and students at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences are participating in the weekly flag ceremony, wearing traditional Indonesian attire to commemorate Kartini Day. Raden Ajeng (R.A.) Kartini is widely recognized as a pioneer of women’s emancipation in Indonesia, advocating for women’s rights to education and equal opportunities.
During the ceremony, it was mentioned that the spirit of Kartini is not only about honoring the struggle of Indonesian women but also about recognizing that women should have equal opportunities to pursue successful careers and achieve their highest potential while continuing to fulfill their responsibilities within the family. This principle reflects FMIPA’s commitment to promoting a healthy balance between professional development, family life, and contributions to society.
