Pentingnya bekal ketrampilan bagi anak yatim dan dhuafa, menjadi perhatian dosen Universitas Negeri Semarang (Unnes).

Karena itu, sebagai bentuk pengabdian pada masyarakat, baru-baru ini, sejumlah dosen bersama mahasiswa menggelar pelatihan pewarnaan kain dengan teknik shibori, di Panti Asuhan Kafalatul Yatama RW 3 Ngaliyan Semarang.

Kegiatan training dan edukasi dyer craft yang dimotori Program Studi Pendidikan Tata Busana Fakultas Teknik itu, mengambil tema Eksplorasi Teknik Shibori untuk Kreasi Kaos Bermotif bagi Anak-anak Panti Asuhan Ngaliyan Kota Semarang.

Ketua Tim Pengabdian Masyarakat, Dra Widowati MPd mengatakan, pelatihan diperuntukan bagi anak-anak panti bertujuan sebagai bekal hidup ketika hidup bersama masyarakat.

Ia menyampikan, tim pengabdian yang diketuainya itu, beranggotakan dosen dan mahasiswa dari Program Studi Pendidikan Tata Busana yaitu Dwi Putri Asih SPd MPd. Mereka adalah Khiroatun Fidloiyah, Luthfiyah Aprilliana, Nadhifa lutfihasna, dan Alma Mutiara.

“Tujuan untuk meningkatkan ketrampilan di luar sekolah bagi anak-anak di panti asuhan. Harapannya bisa untuk latihan produksi dan latihan usaha, sehingga bisa menambah penghasilan dan bekal hidup nanti,” ujarnya.

Ia menyampaikan, dalam pelatihan itu, peserta diajak mengeksplorasi teknik shibori untuk kreasi pada kaos yang bermotif.

Shibori sendiri kata dia, adalah sebuah teknik pewarnaan kain tradisional dari Jepang yang dilakukan dengan cara melipat, mengikat, melilit, atau menjepit kain sebelum dicelup ke dalam pewarna.

Widowati menerangkan, teknik tersebut menciptakan pola-pola unik dan menarik karena bagian kain yang terikat atau terlipat akan menahan warna. Dari tekni itu, menghasilkan efek kontras.

“Nama shibori dalam bahasa Jepang berasal dari kata shiboru yang berarti memeras atau menekan. Teknik ini sudah digunakan sejak abad kedelapan di Jepang dan hingga kini masih populer sebagai bagian dari seni tekstil
Kreatif,” ungkapnya.

Ciri khas dari shibori, lanjut dia, yaitu menghasilkan pola yang tidak berulang dan bersifat handmade. Cara itu menggunakan teknik manual seperti ikat atau kumo, lipat atau itajime, dan lilit bola atau kanoko.
