Semarang State University (UNNES) is ranked 6th National and 42nd in the World in the University of Indonesia (UI) GreenMetric World University Ranking 2022 which was announced live on the University of Indonesia and the University of Indonesia’s YouTube channel, Monday (12/12/2022).
This achievement is expected to be a stepping stone for UNNES to be ready to become a World Class University (WCU) and to link UNNES’s vision of becoming a world-reputed university and a pioneer of educational excellence.
UI GreenMetric which involves UNNES in the ranking of universities in the field of sustainability for Indonesia and the world level is a publication event that is held annually.
This ranking was initiated by UI which assesses the ranking of universities in Indonesia and the world of UI GreenMetric participants based on commitment and action towards greenery and environmental sustainability.
In 2022, UNNES will compete with 126 universities in the country that are participating in UI GreenMetric. This ranking was also followed by 1,050 universities from 85 countries.
Coconut UNNES Conservation Development UPT, Prof. Dr. Amin Retnoningsih, M.Sc. said UNNES’s entry into the top 10 of UI GreenMetric was a major achievement because UNNES consistently remained at the highest level of campuses committed to sustainability and the environment.
“This achievement is not just a ranking but how the university’s commitment to sustainability and the environment. UNNES will continue to improve performance related to UI GreenMeric which is in line with UNNES’s vision of becoming a world-reputed university and a pioneer of educational excellence.”
In addition, Prof. Amin emphasized that the inclusion of UNNES in the ranks of tertiary institutions that are committed to environmental conservation is the result of hard work with the academic community, starting from lecturers, students, to education staff (tendik).
International standard tertiary institutions are not only seen from the quality of research, scientific publications, patents, the distribution of graduates, and the achievements of lecturers or students, but are also determined by technology and ways to maintain environmental sustainability. UNNES emphasized that this commitment continues to exist and is guarded through the three pillars of conservation.
For information, there are several pillars that UI GreenMetric implements to assess a university’s commitment to greening and environmental sustainability, namely environmental, economic, educational, and social.
The weight of the assessment in this ranking includes campus conditions and infrastructure (15%), energy and climate change (21%), and waste management (18%), water use (10%), transportation (18%), education and research (18%) %).
