The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Negeri Semarang (FK UNNES), in collaboration with PT Sido Muncul, held a Hybrid National Seminar entitled “Utilization of Herbal Medicines Towards a Healthy Indonesia 2025” on Wednesday (September 3rd). This event demonstrated UNNES’ commitment to developing science and health based on local wisdom, while also supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly point 3, Good Health and Well-Being.
In his remarks, the UNNES Rector emphasized the importance of research and utilization of herbal medicines as part of national health development. He also emphasized UNNES’ continued commitment to playing a role in global efforts to achieve the SDGs through innovation in education, health, and community service.
This event featured speakers from across sectors, including:
- Dr. apt. Ipang Djunarko, S.Si., M.Sc. (Faculty of Pharmacy, Sanata Dharma University, Yogyakarta)
- Dr. dr. Neni Susilaningsih, M.Sc. (Faculty of Medicine, Diponegoro University, Semarang)
- Dr. (H.C.) Irwan Hidayat (Director of PT Industri Jamu dan Farmasi Sido Muncul Tbk)
- Prof. Dr. dr. Mahalul Azam, M.Kes. (Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, UNNES)
- Dr. apt. Dra. Lucia Rizka Andalucia, M.Pharm., MARS (Director General of Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices, Ministry of Health, Republic of Indonesia)
- apt. Mohamad Kashuri, S.Si., M.Farm. (Deputy for Supervision of Traditional Medicines, Health Supplements, and Cosmetics, BPOM).
Through this scientific forum, participants were encouraged to understand the immense potential of herbal medicines in improving public health, strengthening national independence in the health sector, and simultaneously maintaining environmental sustainability.
The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, UNNES, Prof. Mahalul Azam, emphasized that this seminar is expected to become a space for strategic collaboration between academia, government, industry, and the community. By strengthening this synergy, the use of herbal medicines can be optimized scientifically, safely, and sustainably.
This joint effort not only contributes to improving public health but also supports the achievement of the SDGs. The hope is that Indonesia can realize a healthy, prosperous, and globally competitive society through independent research and innovation based on local wisdom.
