Semarang, April 27, 2024 — In order to commemorate Earth Day, Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) through the Conservation Sub-Directorate held an environmental campaign while distributing 400 quality vegetable seeds to the public at the Car Free Day (CFD) event at Simpang Lima Semarang, Sunday (27/4).
The vegetable seeds distributed were the result of cultivation by UNNES Ecofarm, which is managed with the principles of sustainable agriculture to support the campus conservation program.

This event was held thanks to the collaboration between the UNNES Conservation Sub-Directorate, the Semarang City Environmental Service (DLH), UNNES Green Techno Park, and the UNNES Green Community student organization.
The Head of the UNNES Conservation Sub-Directorate, Prof. Dr. Nana Kariada Tri Martuti, M.Sc., in her speech said that this activity aims to raise public awareness about the importance of protecting the environment through real actions. “We hope that with simple activities such as planting vegetables at home, the community can contribute to maintaining the sustainability of the earth,” said Prof. Nana.

In addition to distributing seeds, this event also included socialization about protected fauna in Indonesia and environmental education through Virtual Reality (VR) technology. CFD visitors, from children to adults, seemed enthusiastic about trying the VR simulation that displayed various natural ecosystems and the importance of preserving them.
Semarang City residents welcomed this activity positively. Many visitors said they were happy to get plant seeds and learn about environmental preservation. “The activity is fun and useful, especially for children who can learn to love the environment from an early age,” said one participant.
With the spirit of conservation that continues to be echoed, UNNES hopes that this activity will trigger the birth of more real actions in preserving the environment in the future.
