In an effort to realize its commitment to environmental conservation while maintaining the safety of the electricity transmission network, PLN’s Central Java Transmission Main Unit (UIT JBT), in collaboration with Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), launched the PLN Peduli Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) Program, themed “Planting Superior Trees and Developing Rare Plants at the UNNES Ecogreen Nursery” on Friday (November 7th).
The event, which took place at the UNNES Ecogreen Nursery, was attended by Prof. Dr. Zaenuri, M.Sc., Akt., Vice Rector I of UNNES; Mr. Firdaus, Senior Manager of Communications and General Affairs at PLN UIT JBT; and Ms. Shoti’ah, Head of the Semarang City Agriculture Office. Also in attendance were lecturers, students, and invited guests from various agencies.
In his remarks, Prof. Zaenuri expressed his appreciation for PLN’s support in environmental conservation efforts.
“This collaboration is a strategic step in strengthening conservation education and expanding the impact of sustainability, a long-standing commitment to UNNES,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Firdaus explained that PLN’s Community and Environmental Sustainability (CJSL) program not only focuses on social aspects, but is also directed at supporting environmental sustainability and the operational safety of the Java-Bali electricity system through appropriate reforestation activities.
“We hope this collaboration with UNNES will provide tangible benefits to the environment and the surrounding community,” he said.
As part of this program, 1,350 seedlings of 30 rare plant species were planted at the UNNES Ecogreen Nursery. This activity aims to preserve local biodiversity while also providing an educational platform for students and the community about the importance of conservation.
Furthermore, superior seedlings such as avocado, calliandra, and durian were planted in the Right of Way (ROW) or under the power transmission lines (sutet). These plants were chosen because they do not grow too tall but remain productive, making them safe for the power grid and supporting the economic sustainability of the surrounding community.
UNNES also plays an active role in facilitating the development of calliandra plants as goat feed. This effort is expected to synergize community livestock and agricultural activities with the presence of electricity infrastructure without compromising the safety of the 500-kilovolt transmission network in Central Java.
The series of activities included a screening of the PLN Peduli TJSL video, an inspiring testimonial from a Local Hero by Mr. Mirtoyo, and a report on program implementation by Prof. Dr. Juhadi, M.Si. The event culminated in the presentation of a mock-up and the signing of a plaque between PLN and UNNES, symbolizing the commencement of the TJSL program collaboration.
Through this activity, PLN UIT JBT, together with UNNES and the Semarang City Agriculture Office, committed to strengthening synergy in preserving nature, improving electricity grid safety, and encouraging community participation in realizing a sustainable environment.
