Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) successfully earned an award in the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking, placing 4th nationally and 28th globally. This achievement confirms UNNES’s position as one of the leading universities in implementing conservation-oriented and sustainable campus practices. Universitas Negeri Semarang
The UI GreenMetric World University Ranking is a global university ranking initiated by Universitas Indonesia. The ranking measures a campus’s commitment and performance in applying sustainability principles. Assessments are conducted based on several indicators, including environmental and infrastructure management, energy and climate change, waste and water management, sustainable transportation, and environmental education and research.
UNNES Rector Prof. Dr. S. Martono, M.Si., through UNNES Vice Rector IV Prof. Dr. Nur Qudus, M.T., IPM., emphasized that this achievement reflects UNNES’s progress in realizing its vision as a conservation-minded university.
“This shows an extraordinary improvement in our efforts to realize UNNES’s vision as a conservation-oriented university. This achievement must continue to be implemented in everyday campus life, thereby driving even better and more sustainable improvements,” he said in an interview at Muladi Dome Building, Diponegoro University, Semarang City, Tuesday (16/12/2025).
Meanwhile, Head of the UNNES Conservation Sub-directorate Prof. Dr. Nana Kariada Tri Martuti, M.Si., also appreciated the entire academic community for their contributions and support in strengthening the culture of conservation at UNNES.
“Thank you for the support of the entire UNNES academic community. This achievement is both a reminder and a motivation for us all to keep striving harder and to dare to step out of our comfort zones. The three pillars of conservation implemented at UNNES align with the university’s vision of achieving sustainable development,” she said.
On the other hand, Dr. Vishnu Juwono, S.E., MIA, Chair of UI GreenMetric, explained that the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking is designed as a global instrument to encourage universities to implement sustainability policies that have real impact.
“The UI GreenMetric World University Ranking is here to encourage university leaders and stakeholders to implement impactful sustainable policies. Thus, universities can become role models for society, including UNNES,” he said.
The event was also attended by the Minister of Environment or Head of the Environmental Control Agency, Dr. Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, the Deputy Governor of Central Java H. Taj Yasin Maimoen, the Director of Institutional Affairs of Diktisaintek Prof. Dr. Mukhamad Najib, S.TP., M.M., and leaders from various universities across Indonesia.
