In implementing democracy education in the campus environment, Semarang State University is committed to signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the General Election Commission (KPU) of the Republic of Indonesia. This MoU focuses on the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education in the field of elections and democracy education. The signing activity was carried out in the Meeting Room on the 2nd Floor of the KPU RI Office, Central Jakarta on Saturday, (31/8).
The signing of this MoU was carried out by the Chancellor of UNNES, Prof. Dr. S Martono, M.Sc., who was accompanied by the Vice Chancellor for Cooperation, Business, and International Relations, Prof. Dr. Nur Qudus, M.T, IPM., Vice Chancellor for Planning, General, HR, and Finance, Prof. Heri Yanto, M.B.A., Ph.D., University Secretary Prof. Dr. Sugianto, M.Sc. and the Deans of the Faculty of Law, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Medicine, and Faculty of Sports Science.
From the KPU RI, the signing was carried out by the Chairman of the KPU, Mochammad Afifudin, S.TH.I., M.Sc., who was present with members of the KPU RI, Yulianto Sudrajat, and the Secretary General of the KPU, Bernard Dermawan Sutrisno, along with all structural and functional officials within the KPU.
In the MoU, UNNES and the KPU RI agreed to cooperate in implementing the Tridharma of Higher Education, especially in the field of elections and democracy education. One concrete manifestation of this cooperation is the election socialization aimed at the UNNES academic community.
In his remarks, the Chancellor of UNNES, Prof. Dr. S Martono said that UNNES as a center for the development of democratic science and knowledge continues to strive to maintain the quality of democracy through various programs, including the “Supervision Corner” which is already available on campus. This program aims to increase the knowledge of the UNNES academic community about the election and strengthen their role in monitoring the 2024 participatory election.
Mochammad Afifudin, Chairman of the Indonesian KPU also explained the Constitutional Court (MK) decision NO 65/PUU-XXI/2023 concerning campaign permits in educational institutions and government facilities. This decision is expected to provide more space for political education activities among academics.
With this collaboration, it is hoped that UNNES’ role in supporting the democratic process in Indonesia will be strengthened and the academic community will be more active and participatory in the upcoming election.
