The People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia (MPR RI) held a National Seminar with the theme of the Urgency of Energy Transition in Preventing the Impact of Climate Change. This aims to increase awareness of the younger generation, especially students, regarding the importance of switching to clean energy in order to create a more sustainable future.
Deputy Chairman of the MPR RI, H. Dr. Mohammad Eddy Dwiyanto Soeparno, S.H., M.H., emphasized that environmental issues are very relevant to young people, because they concern their survival in the future.
“Environmental issues are very close to young people because they concern their future. We want to foster collaboration between students and the MPR RI so that these issues are raised as a shared concern,” he said when interviewed at the UNNES LPPM Building, Semarang City, Friday (2/14/2025).
According to him, one of the efforts that can be made to prevent the impact of climate change is to transition to renewable energy.
“Indonesia has extraordinary potential for renewable energy ranging from Geothermal, Wind to Solar. However, the current renewable energy mix has not reached 15 percent of the national energy mix. This must be increased so that the use of renewable energy will increase in the future,” he explained.
He also hopes that the collaboration between UNNES and the MPR RI can be closer and have a real impact in building awareness and real action for students in protecting the environment.
“I hope that the collaboration between UNNES and the MPR RI is not only limited to seminars and discussions, but also produces real movements that involve students in various programs, such as research and innovation of renewable energy, environmental policy advocacy, to concrete social actions in the community,” he added.
This seminar is also part of the MPR RI’s efforts to provide socialization, provision, and education to students so that they are more aware of environmental issues, care about the energy transition, and are encouraged to take real action in environmental protection efforts.
Meanwhile, UNNES Chancellor Prof. Dr. S Martono, M.Sc., through the Vice Chancellor I for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Zaenuri, M.Sc., Akt., revealed that UNNES as a conservation-oriented campus has a high commitment to developing education that is oriented towards environmental sustainability.
“As a conservation university, UNNES is ready to collaborate with the MPR RI in strengthening students’ awareness of the importance of energy transition. We hope that this seminar will be a spark of enthusiasm for students to participate in clean energy innovation and become agents of change in society,” he said.
With the synergy between the MPR RI and UNNES, it is hoped that students can play a more active role in encouraging more sustainable energy transition policies, for a greener and more environmentally friendly future for Indonesia.
