At Universitas Negeri Semarang on Thursday morning (02/11/2023), UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta conducted a comparative research (benchmarking) on trash management. The purpose of this visit is to facilitate knowledge and experience sharing between the two universities about efficient and sustainable waste management.
This event was held in two sessions, and the UIN Sunan Kalijaga delegation was led by Prof. Dr. Iswandi Syahputra, S.Ag., M.Sc., the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. Dr. Ir. Ananto Aji, M.Sc., speaking on behalf of Prof. Dr. Amin Retnoningsih, M.Sc., Chair of the UNNES Conservation Sub-Directorate, led the first workshop with speakers from UNNES. In the second session, the Integrated Waste Management Site was the main attraction on a tour to the UNNES Sekaran Campus.
Dr. Ir. Ananto Aji, M.Sc., discussed various UNNES environmental management triumphs in his presentation. It is generally connected to UNNES’s accomplishments in UI Greenmetric, and more especially, it is connected to UNNES’s success in achieving a zero waste campus. In addition to addressing other UI Greenmetric factors, Sunan Kalijaga, the Deputy Chancellor for Academic Affairs at UIN, expressed his gratitude and interest in UNNES’s accomplishments in waste management throughout his remarks. He clarified that the goal of this tour was to introduce UNNES’ best practices to the UIN Sunan Kalijaga campus. Additionally, Mr. WR 1 said that he would be interested in taking part in the UI Greenmetric competition in the future. As the resource person, Dr. Ananto also declared that he was prepared to participate in and support this esteemed competition.
Following the session, the activity proceeded with a tour to the UNNES Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST) at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. The 35-person delegation got the chance to watch and learn about a variety of UNNES-implemented activities during their visit to TPST. A number of questions about producing compost, creating maggots, and operating the incinerator were also raised by participants, demonstrating their curiosity. Overall, the group team reported that UIN Sunan Kalijaga’s future waste management strategies were greatly influenced by TPST. Members of the group also mentioned how much they liked how clean and well-maintained the UNNES campus was during the trip.
It is hoped that initiatives such as these can go on and yield significant advantages for the community at large as well as for the institutions involved. Maintaining a clean and sustainable environment is a shared responsibility, and it is something we can accomplish together if we work together.
