Semarang, June 4, 2025 – Commemorating World Environment Day 2025, the Head of the Conservation Sub-Directorate of Universitas Negeri Semarang (Unnes), Prof. Dr. Nana Kariada Tri Martuti, M.Sc., led a real action of pouring eco enzyme solution into the Unnes Reservoir today. This activity confirms Unnes’ commitment as a conservation campus in maintaining the quality of the aquatic environment.
Accompanied by a number of students and staff of the Conservation Sub-Directorate, Prof. Nana seemed enthusiastic about sprinkling the organic fermentation liquid. “This action is a concrete manifestation of our concern for the quality of water in the campus environment, especially in the Unnes Reservoir which is one of Unnes’ icons,” said Prof. Nana.
Prof. Nana Kariada Tri Martuti explained that eco enzyme, a solution resulting from the fermentation of organic waste, is very effective in clarifying and improving water quality. “The active enzymes in it help break down organic pollutants and reduce unpleasant odors in the water,” explained Prof. Nana. “This makes it a natural, environmentally friendly solution for maintaining the aquatic ecosystem.” The main benefits of eco enzyme for water include:
Natural Water Purifier: Effectively purifies water in rivers, ponds, and reservoirs.
Pollutant Decomposer: Helps decompose organic substances that pollute water.
Odor Remover: Reduces unpleasant odors that often appear in polluted waters.
“We hope that by spreading this eco enzyme, the water quality in the Unnes Reservoir will improve, and can be an example for the wider community to utilize household organic waste into something useful,” added Prof. Nana.
This action is not only a symbol of the commemoration of World Environment Day, but also an invitation for the entire Unnes academic community and the general public to start implementing a sustainable lifestyle, starting from managing organic waste in their respective homes.
