Semarang, February 26, 2025 – The Institute for Research and Community Service of the State University of Malang (UM) conducted a literacy study related to waste management at the Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES). This study focused on the UNNES Integrated Waste Processing Facility (TPST) and was warmly welcomed by the UNNES Conservation Sub-Directorate and a team from UM led by Prof. Dr. Sumarmi, M.Pd.
The visit, which took place on Wednesday (26/2), aimed to gain a deeper understanding of the waste management system implemented at UNNES as one of the conservation campuses in Indonesia. In this activity, the delegation from UM had the opportunity to see firsthand the waste management process from upstream to downstream and discuss the challenges and innovations in managing waste sustainably.

The UNNES Conservation Sub-Directorate welcomed the arrival of the UM team and shared experiences regarding the strategies that have been implemented in waste management efforts. “We really appreciate the visit from LPPM UM, this is an important moment to share insights in creating a greener and more sustainable campus environment,” said Prof. Dr. Nana Kariada Tri Martuti, M.Sc., Head of the UNNES Conservation Sub-Directorate.
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Sumarmi, M.Pd., as a representative of the UM team, stated that UNNES can be a model in implementing a waste management system in the campus environment. “We want to learn from UNNES about the conservation approach and technology applied in waste management. Hopefully, the model in UNNES can be adapted and developed on our campus,” he said.

This visit is expected to strengthen academic relations between the two universities and encourage the implementation of best practices in waste management in higher education environments. With this literacy study, it is hoped that more campuses will apply conservation principles for environmental sustainability.
